The betting line had them even.
Exactly. You play hard until you hear the two whistles.
In my way though it would not be shown to them on a scoreboard etc just down to an official timekeeper!
Looked bad. Huge loss.
Are you the delegate for the International Union of Allied Timekeepers.
The World Cup and the Chivas.
Enjoyed Holland’s start. It’d be nice to see the Red Devils run out with a WC winning coach.
What should Klinsmann have Bradley doing? I’ve played club soccer but never coached, so I really don’t know the preferred strategic options.
But we know how it’s determined, Steve. We can sit there with a stop watch and time it ourselves if we want, but most of us have a pretty good idea just by tracking the stoppages in the half.
They put commercials on the football fence surrounding the field. Play is non stop 45+ minutes in two halves and there’s no room for commercial breaks - except at half-time.
That makes it difficult to broadcast a football game on commercial TV.
I have never seen crowds like that before following the World Cup in America.
The Brazilians and the English OTOH, are football fanatics. If their team loses, they take it personal. Football hooligans. :)
“Theres still nothing more difficult in sports IMHO than hitting major league pitching.”
I agree, and the cool thing about that is if you can hit a round ball fair with a round bat thrown with major league skill with consistency you don’t have to have some of the raw physical attributes that some of the other popular sports generally require to excel or even compete in.
I mean, look at Tony Gwynn, may he rest in peace. Yes, a tremendously gifted athlete, but in his mid-late seasons he would have never been mistaken for a football player or a basket ball player. But it didn’t matter, he could hit a ball just as easy as falling out of bed.
Freegards
I was very impressed with Pirlo and Italy. He may be the dominant player of the tournament.
A lot of people were saying before that European teams won’t win in South America...but I must say so far, the Dutch, Italians, and Germans have been very impressive. Argentina and Brazil didn’t look at that great in their games....Of course, it’s still early.
“That makes it difficult to broadcast a football game on commercial TV.”
So in the countries where it is really popular, they have pay per view or gov’t TV or what?
Freegards
They have pay per view and commercials on cable but the popularity of the sport overcomes its limitations in most of the world in terms of showing it on TV. The ratings are always the highest in households.
And 3 billion people around the world are following the World Cup on their TV sets.
A lot of kids play soccer, but I’ve never seen so many adults wearing soccer jerseys out in public. I think it says a lot about how soccer is becoming a legit sport in this country. This is my first time watching the World Cup myself. I played soccer for many years, but never took the time to watch the game. It was a very exciting game today.
Historically, no European team has won in South America.
The prohibitive favorite is Brazil, then Germany, Italy, Argentina and Mexico.
