I've seen a lot of crazy things at a lot of golf tournaments but I'm not sure if I've ever seen this. A man at the 2014 US Open who was driving NBC's Roger Maltbie around the course got a DWI on Saturday for driving the course under the influence of alcohol.
According to GolfWeek the story was as bizarre as it sounds.
"The officer was upset because, according to him, the driver ran over his foot when leaving the tee area. The cop then chased the cart on a sandy surface just outside the gallery ropes while yelling, 'Stop! Stop!' and 'Come back here.'
The officer finally caught up, climbed onto the back of the cart and put his arms around the driver's neck and shoulders from behind. As Maltbie came over to try to help his friend and colleague, whose name he wouldn't divulge, the patrolman handcuffed the man from behind and arrested him.
'This is a new one,' Maltbie said while walking down the 11th fairway at Pinehurst No. 2. 'I've been to a couple of rodeos and a county fair, and I've never had this happen.'"
The Fayeteville Observer said the man was charged for a number of things.
"Thomas Lineberry, 59, of Wilmington, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, hit and run, driving while impaired and resisting, obstructing and delaying a law enforcement officer, according to Pam Walker, a spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety."

So this cop charges a guy with felony assault for rolling over a foot uninjured enough to run after a golf cart, resisting arrest for defending himself from an assailant who attacked from behind, DWI for driving an offroad vehicle on private property, and delaying an officer for not stopping his cart when one a-hole in a crowd of people yells stop.
I really wish there was a way to punish these power tripping jack boots but it seems like the judge and prosecutor involved are just a gung-ho as this rambo wannabe cop. I guess it’s easy when it’s not their lives and money on the line.
Probably was dumped in day care at 6 weeks and is really unable to relate to anyone so he throws a tantrum.
Why? The patrolmen would love to make a few court trips. Easy work and they get paid overtime.
If the cop was able to chase him down his foot
wasnt hurt very bad.
Sounds like the cop just felt dissed.
Best to treat `em like gangstas..keep away from `em
If driving a golf cart drunk is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
Walk on the other side of the street lol
I want to see the tire marks on the occifer’s shoe!
Balls on golf courses naturally lead to all sorts of hilarious situations.
Lineberry is accused of hitting Trooper Ryan A. Goodin, who was treated at a
medical trailer for a minor leg injury. Goodin had instructed Lineberry to
stop before he was hit, according to multiple media reports. Lineberry was
driving the cart for NBC Sports analyst Roger Maltbie, according to news reports.
Goodin, who is assigned to the Statesville office, is one of approximately 170
state troopers assisting with security during the U.S. Open Championships.
“The highway patrol has no authority to arrest a man fore DWI for driving an off road vehicle on a golf course.”
Oh, you might be surprised as to what authority the cop has. I researched it once (for fun, never had a problem myself, fortunately) - the term is “Operational Control” of a motorized vehicle. And, believe it or not, a man working on his car, IN HIS DRIVEWAY, ON BLOCKS, was given a DUI when the neighbor called the cops because his music was too loud.
Now a lawyer probably got the guy off of that charge (don’t know)...but the laws are SO LOOSE that the cop got his wish - still making a mess of the guy’s life and leaving him with some SERIOUS legal bills.
...and it was not a one-off.
So I run over this cop with my cart and you know what he says to me? “Gunga galunga”
Expect the trooper to retire eventually with disability benefits.
That entire list read moe like, “I’m pissed off over an accident, and im going to get you for anything and everything.”
But let the pig make a mistake and piglets everywhere wilk demand we understand he is only human. Cops are nothing but two-faced thugs.
