Wayne and O’Hara did at least one other movie together. The one I’m thinking of was black and white (of course) and they were both very young. I think they married in that other movie, loosely based on Taming of The Shrew.
Quite Man???
Make that Quiet Man
I saw it around 1973 with my girl friend who was later my wife.
It was a good movie and Richard Boone was a great villain. It did occur to me that every now and then, John Wayne was just a little too full of himself.
Still he was a great one.
You maybe thinking of McClintock! with Wayne and O’Hara.
It was loosely based TOTS...but was in color.
Big Jake is one of my Duke favs.
Quiet Man. Yes, I think that was the one. Duke was an actor of his time in many ways. None of his sons have been able to make a career out of acting, even though at least two had a strong resemblance to their dad. I recall one of Wayne’s sons’ had a long running contract with a Dog Food product, lots of TV commercials. But that was 25 years ago. Sometimes, lightning does not strike twice in the same family, the appeal and charisma simply is not there. Just ask, Solange, Beyonce’s bitter sister.
One of my favorite John Wayne movies.
I became a fan of Maureen Ohara when I first saw At Swords Point.
The only actress that I think can pull off as strong a character as John Wayne.
John Wayne always plays the ultimate manly man character. Maureen Ohara is one of the few who can play a character of his EQUAL.
That’s a great movie. “I thought you was DAID!” “Not hardly!”
Quiet Man was a masterpiece. All of John Ford’s regulars, Ward Bond, Victor McGlockin, Barry Fitzsgerald. Set in Ireland, maybe the best fight movie history between Wayne and McGlockin.
‘Listen up, if any thing happens.... Your fault, my fault, nobody’s fault: you die.’ Wayne to Boone.
Beat me to it!
And the dog was awesome.
Lots of great scenes in that movie.
Is this the one where The Duke physically abuses Maureen O’Hara?
Yeah, the dog, the Indian, the shotguns ...
I wrote a paper on it for English class in high school, got an A.
We named our youngest daughter Kathleen after Maureen O’Hara’s character in that movie. (And my aunt.)
I use the Indian’s line every once in awhile;
“Well, my bad leg is once again my good leg.” (or something like that).
