Girl scarred by pit bull attack asked to leave restaurant

JACKSON, Miss. —A 3-year-old girl who was attacked by pit bulls in April was asked to leave a Jackson restaurant because her scars scared customers, the girl's grandmother told 16 WAPT News.

"Does this face look scary to you?" accompanied a picture of Victoria Wilcher on the Facebook page Victoria's Victories, which documents the child's recovery from the attack at her grandfather's home in Simpson County. Authorities said one of Donald Mullins' dogs ripped open the back door and jumped on the girl. Two other dogs dragged her into the back yard and began mauling her, investigators said.

"The right side of her face is paralyzed. She's got a lot of surgeries to go through and she won't even look in the mirror anymore," said Victoria's grandmother, Kelly Mullins. "When we go to a store, she doesn't even want to get out (of the car). She's 3 years old and she's embarrassed about what she looks like. She's embarrassed and I hate it because she shouldn't be. It ain't her fault."

You and I are just destined to believe that the other is an idiot on this subject.

And a lawsuit against grandpa isn’t going to do this little girl much good.

Correct-Malamutes and Huskies fight at the drop of a hat, and are not that friendly to other dogs. I live on a couple of fenced acres, have a Husky who is a sweet baby, but she is leashed when outside if another dog is present ever since she attempted to eat a neighbor’s Yorkie, sweater and all, that wandered through a hole in the fence last winter.

Agree to disagree, sir-but that money will go a long way to rendering a stupid person broke, and to paying for the best ever reconstructive surgery for that cub-Obamacare certainly won’t give her the best...

Are those the booking photos of the grandfather and his girlfriend for this incident???

They are. The photo is from the Simpson County Sheriff's Department.

The surviving dogs were handed over to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.

The correlation between the stupid and broke is already quite high, such that many owners of the offending pit bulls are already as empty in their pockets as in their heads.

FReegards.

I suspect he's judgement-proof, more than likely being asset-free and uninsured.

Likely so, but I don’t think his relationship with his relatives is what it once was, either.

Like I said, he looks like one of the meth cookers that got busted...

Pit bulls are living, breathing creatures who go about their business without direction 24x7.

So is a bull. So is a mule. So is a stallion. So is a boar. What happens when a three year old wanders off and gets in with one of these? Probably nothing, and you know why? Because the dogs are there. That same autonomy that you decry is the very same autonomy which will protect that child unto death, until a man can come to fetch her. And I have seen it more than once.

And that’s a shame.

No, what is a shame is that folks grow so far from the land that they can't understand what a dog is for.

“You know what though? He could have been a swell guy!”

No way. There is something fundamentally amiss with someone who covers their body in tattoos. The time, money, and pain spent getting his entire scalp covered in tattoos suggests there is something clinically wrong. Even if he has never done anything wrong, loves his mom, believes in Jesus, helps old ladies across the street after they faint at his appearance, he has defaced the gift God has given him.

Moral relativism will suggest that he is merely different. Were he of another culture, particularly a primitive one, I might agree, but he is of this culture and, consciously or subconsciously, he is direct rebellion with western culture. Someone will suggest he is making a personal statement. Perhaps, but all he really seems to be saying is “I will never work in corporate America or marry well.” Someone is bound to suggest that you cannot judge a book by its cover. Well, yes you can and often you better. The swastika in the center of Chuckie’s forehead says you better not invite him to your next family gathering. Furthermore, his actions, which speak louder than words, suggest that the time money and effort spent obtaining the so called art work could have and should have been better spent elsewhere. There is a reason that the people who have achieved high levels of success and competency are not covered in tattoos.

"Then you oughta know better. Roll up into a farmyard and jump out of the truck and see how far you get with the dogs - pitbull or otherwise- unless the family calls them off... They'll tear you a new one if you don't belong there. Worse yet up here - Try rolling up on a mountain cabin and do the same."

In the mountains or anywhere, having dangerous dogs running loose is a way to get a bad reputation and eventually find trouble. No one has a right--even on their own property--to allow such dogs to threaten anyone any more than they have a right to point weapons at a visitor for visiting to ask a proper question. People have every right to shoot dangerous dogs on the loose.

"So is a bull. So is a mule. So is a stallion. So is a boar. What happens when a three year old wanders off and gets in with one of these? Probably nothing,"

That depends on whether the bull, mule, stallion or bore is dangerous, and decent parents don't allow small kids to "get in with" them. If such an animal hurts a child, an adult will likely go to prison for it.

"and you know why? Because the dogs are there."

Always? That's not true. And many dogs can't be trusted around kids.

"That same autonomy that you decry is the very same autonomy which will protect that child unto death, until a man can come to fetch her."

The "autonomy" behind the attack on the little girl mentioned in the article above this thread--like large numbers of other kids who were mauled or murdered by dangerous dogs and their owners.

"No, what is a shame is that folks grow so far from the land that they can't understand what a dog is for."

Dogs are for barking as security alarms, or herding cattle or yaks. Dangerous dogs aren't reliable enough to use for enforcing security. They don't know how to legally escalate defense, when a human is attacked. Bad dogs only attack with deadly force.

Correct-Malamutes and Huskies fight at the drop of a hat, and are not that friendly to other dogs. Aw, they're friendly enough, unless they are on their own turf... Quite often there can be a pissin match, like if I walk up on a camp... My dog and his dog will tussle a bit, might have to kick em apart a time or two, till they figure out they are supposed to play nice... But then, if something approaches the camp, they will work together against it... funny how that works...

I live on a couple of fenced acres, have a Husky who is a sweet baby, but she is leashed when outside if another dog is present ever since she attempted to eat a neighbor’s Yorkie, sweater and all, that wandered through a hole in the fence last winter.

Now see, I can't fault the dog in that condition - she is doing her job... It would be too bad for the Yorkie and all...

I value the “nurture” part of the behavior equation, but I think you sell the “nature” part unwisely short here. Dogs are natural predators... and as shocking as it to say... same could be said of some human lineages.

; )

Up here folks use a gus style because it sheds water, and a wide brim that winds up flat, bent down front and rear... It's the snow and the rain that shapes them that way. I'd imagine that them taco-style sides y'all have is because of prairie winds... Same with the curled sides they do in OK and KA...

“No way. There is something fundamentally amiss with someone who covers their body in tattoos. “

Everyone has the right to do stuff when they are young and stupid. Then when they get older and wiser they realize that was a waste. With out having know that guy he could have changed his life and be a good moral person and not the same person he was. I like to give some people the benefit of the doubt.

The dog is tough and vicious for protection, not only against hoomins. Now how is that dog going to keep bears, wolves, coyotes, and cougars up off of your livestock if he's on a line or penned up?

[...]any more than they have a right to point weapons at a visitor for visiting to ask a proper question.

Heh. I take it you haven't been up the Kootenai. It is not even considered to be impolite to be met with a gun, till folks know what you are about... And it is YOU that disarms, not them.

People have every right to shoot dangerous dogs on the loose.

That's a fact. But shoot the dog for doing his job, and you will likely have to deal with the man too. Or you can go complain to the sheriff or the fish and game, but they'll just laugh at you and advise you to stay in town.
