Yes, for all of his shortcomings, I do miss President George W. Bush. I also miss the leadership of Newt Gingrich when the Conservative Rebellion of the mid-90s neutralized KKKlinton and gas was 97 cents a gallon here in Texas.
Regardless of the price of gas, I drive only when necessary. Even at my advanced age, I use a bicycle when going to the grocery store and for other errands. I probably have shot my Conservative credentials here on FR by admitting to using a bike. :)
Also, a minimum-wage earner supporting a family has all kinds of government support from EITC to food stamps to free healthcare to augment his or her income.
I’m one of those who holds W responsible not only for lots of bad decisions as president, but also for setting the stage for someone like Obama to follow him.
I have half a brain and I work hard. I also got laid off from my job and took a minimum wage job at Kroger, hoping they would take me on full time so I could get health insurance for my wife. They had no intention of ever taking me on full time and I quit when they not only cut my hours but expected me to travel from store to store at my own expense to help with inventory. I now have a good job that pays well and has excellent benefits but I still know plenty of people staying at Kroger, Home Depot, Lowes, Publix and fast food joints who take minimum wage because they can't find anything better.
