NASCAR Euro driver killed in Philippines:
Former NASCAR Whelen Euro Series driver Ferdinand “Enzo” Pastor was shot and killed Thursday night in Quezon City, Philippines. Pastor was the first Filipino driver in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, finishing sixth in the series standings in 2013. According to reports, the 32-year-old was traveling to Pampanga for the Asian V8 Championship, a stock-car race for drivers from the Asia-Pacific area. The incident occurred when Pastor was driving a truck carrying his race car to Clark International Speedway in Pampanga. Paulo Salazar, Pastor’s assistant who was also injured in the shooting, said they stopped at a traffic light when a masked man approached the vehicle and began shooting. Pastor was struck in the head, neck and arm, and died after being transported to the hospital. According to the report, police investigators ruled out robbery since none of Pastor’s personal belongings were stolen during the incident. They are still trying to determine if the shooting was related to racing.(FoxSports)(6-14-2014)

Keselowski says US not producing quality race engineers:
#2-Brad Keselowski says when it comes to race engineers, he wants to work with the best in the business, if not the world. And, according to Keselowski, that means looking outside the United States. That’s what Team Penske is doing, anyway, and the team currently lists three vehicle dynamic engineers on staff from Canada. “It’s probably a larger story in itself that the American engineering pool is very shallow right now,” said Keselowski after he qualified sixth at Michigan International Speedway on Friday for Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. “Penske is moving to any other country [to find them]. We’ve hired multiple engineers from Europe over the last three or four years and we’re pilfering everyone we can in the great country of Canada, so if you know any of them, send them our way. It’s just very hard to get engineers with the educational background and commitment that we need to be successful at this level from the United States. There’s certainly a shortage, not just at Penske, but throughout the garage.”(AutoWeek)(6-14-2014)
Patrick says Haas has not talked to her about F1 ride:
#10-Danica Patrick said she is flattered that her name keeps coming up to go racing in Formula 1, but for now, at least, it’s a non-starter. In a wide ranging interview with The Toronto Sun outside her motorhome at Michigan International Speedway on Friday, Patrick said her plate is full right now just trying to master the #10 Stewart Haas Racing Chevy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, where she is halfway through her second season in the big stock cars. The offer to go F-1 racing came from her NASCAR team co-owner Gene Haas, who plans on entering the open-wheel fray in the 2016 season with an all-American team. At the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal last weekend, Haas said Patrick would be considered as a driver for the team. Patrick, however, admitted she might have jumped at the opportunity 10 years ago, but her life has changed a lot since then and that she hasn’t been asked by Haas or anybody else what her thoughts were on the subject. “I agree that anything is possible, but nobody has said anything to me,” she said. “I am happy where I am at right now as far as racing goes. I am just starting to get the hang of Sprint Cup racing.” Patrick didn’t, though, absolutely rule out going back to open-wheel racing if the right offer came along. “Out of respect for Gene, if he came to me I would certainly listen, but I am almost getting too old (32) to start a third career,” she said.(see full story at the Toronto Sun)(6-14-2014)
Kahne discusses Kyle Busch and contract:
#5-Kasey Kahne met with members of the media at Michigan International Speedway on Friday and discussed the status of his contract with Hendrick Motorsports and Kyle Busch, the transcript in part:
Q) WHERE ARE YOU WITH YOUR DRIVER’S CONTRACT WITH HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS?
Kahne: “I like being at HMS. It is just an unbelievable place. Getting to work with the three teammates that I get to work with each week is better than anything I’ve ever done in racing as far as guys I’ve been able to work with. I am getting information there from three of the best in racing. I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. Mr. Hendrick is always trying to help me as a driver; as a person and he gives us every opportunity. So, I want to be there a long time. We still have a year-and-a-half before my deal’s up. So I think performance, and sponsors that want to be part of them, and just getting our team back where it needs to be. We’ve struggled some this year for really no reason. We can’t have that. If we can get rid of some of those struggles, I would hope that I would be at Hendrick Motorsports for a long time.”
Q) WHEN DO YOU START TALKING ABOUT RENEWAL?
Kahne: “I think you start talking about it whenever they start talking about it. I don’t know when that date is, but I think we have a lot of really good things going on, and with a little bit of performance here and there, maybe it will come up sooner than later. I would love to be there for a long time, so we will kind of have to see how that works out.”
Q) HAVE YOU AND KYLE BUSCH SPOKEN SINCE LAST WEEK? IF SO, HOW DID THAT GO?
Kahne: “He sent me an email, then a text to ask if I got it. I told him I did, and that is how it went. I talked through every situation and scenario last year with him when we had them, and to this day, I’ve still raced him the exact same way. For him to do that, I knew it was coming as soon as he floored it in the corner. I was like ‘He can’t. He can’t. He’s going to run me right in the wall’. I think he was having a bad day, and just loses it. But as far as us talking, we haven’t. He did write me an email, but I don’t really care anymore. I don’t care to talk to him or anything.”(Team Chevy)(6-14-2014)
First Responders at Talladega Superspeedway for Safety Stop:
Safety equipment, in the form of two medic helicopters, a fire truck and two ambulances, converged at Talladega Superspeedway Wednesday, June 11th, on behalf of Air Methods as part of the Great American Safety Drive (GASD), a “Safety Stop” event put on for more than 50 area First Responders. The event was part of a 12-city cross-country tour that began in Santa Monica, CA on May 31, and will end Sunday in Hilton Head, SC. The tour is designed to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to safety for medical crews and the patients they serve. In the track’s media center local first responders were treated to a half day of safety education. The goal of the Great American Safety Drive is to raise $100,000 for Med Evac Foundation International (non-profit), earmarked specifically to support safety research, education and programs such as the Survivors Network and Vision Zero. In addition to the safety equipment, first responders are pictured behind a classic Chevrolet Corvette, with the Talladega GEICO 500 Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird that led the cross-country tour riding the track’s middle lane.
