Did I hear right that he offered to switch places with his son? It is risky second-guessing what steps a father will take in order to save his son from danger.
It would be a lot clearer if now that the son has reportedly confirmed he was tortured, dad would roundly and convincingly condemn islam.

That could never happen. If Bowe ever sets foot in the continental US, he might screw up and start telling what really happened when he walked away from his unit in Afghanistan.
