They are in full control mode to make sure the word doesn’t get out that this guy is another John Walker-Lindh and I would bet they are giving him two choices right now: Spend the rest of his life in jail or he will say what they want him to say “Oh I went to latrine and the Taliban came out of nowhere and kidnapped me and I want to thank President Obama for saving me. Dad knew govt wouldn’t get his son back(very reasonable) so he tried to reflect his captors thinking and ways and look and language. He continued it while son initially refused english and to communicate, even nationally beside the president, trying the “we are alike, we both want Gitmo closed” route to no avail. Time to return to his real way and wait out son.

Govt wouldn’t help him as they felt his son a traitor so he had to get the boy himself - wouldn’t you get try to get your son back....beating the snot out of him comes later...you go get your son, your the prodigal and your son is still your son.
