1986 was before advanced CGI. Filming a “Mig-28” would have been VERY expensive, even if they had some Russian planes to use.
That said, remember Fire Fox with Clint Eastwood? I always wondered how they did that. But I haven’t watched it in a while.

That said, remember Fire Fox with Clint Eastwood? I always wondered how they did that.The shots where the Fire Fox was taking off and landing were done with R/C model airplanes. Larry Wolfe of Jet Hangar Hobbies built and flew the models. He said they flew very poorly. The design looked good on film, but aerodynamically it was a piece of junk.
