It was the homosexual stuff that got him canned. How can we have a society that is as sexually explicit, sexualized and pornned up as ours is and then fault this guy?

Not only morality, but manners, honesty, following the law, self-control, and all other what we could consider normal societal and family values.

You just swerved into it. It’s merely an excuse to fire the guy. That’s all it is. Somebody had a vendetta against the captain — probably some junior officer in his unit — and this was the easiest, most convenient way to go outside the chain of command and ‘get’ the CO.
The “guns are laid” for certain subjects like homophobia and sexism. All that has to happen is somebody stands up and makes the accusation and the wheels of injustice begin to grind. The beauty part (from the accuser’s standpoint) is that they often get to remain anonymous.
