So the Obams thinks it's a good deal to trade 5 Gitmo detainees for a perfidious deserter. I was outraged about this allweekend. i'd say the evidence of perfidy is pretty conclusive.

Definitely perfidious. He made anti-American statements to his platoon. His father CLEARLY is perfidious, with his speaking in Pashtun, tweeting about avenging Afghan children’s deaths, and all but praising Allah for the son’s return.

How is that "the only thing that matters"? Would it have been okay to empty Guantanamo to get him back? Maybe we should have thrown in the Hawaiian Islands so the Jihadis could use it for a training base.
Liberals are great at looking at one side of an equation when it suits them. Famously, "a woman's right to choose" is sacrosanct. It doesn't even override "a baby's right to live." That never even becomes part of the equation. The tradeoff is never weighed.
Unfortunately, Barry, as all good politicians understand, governing is all about tradeoffs. We don't just say that "coal causes climate change, therefore we won't allow it." We should weigh the perceived climate-related costs to the anticipated economic costs. Same thing with the Keystone Pipeline.

My favorite disingenuous line from yesterday's talking points has to be "We didn't negotiate with terrorists. We negotiated with the government of Qatar." Positively Clintonian in its parsing. So I guess that in labor disputes, the union doesn't negotiate with management. LAWYERS for the union negotiate with LAWYERS for management. I'm getting nostalgic for "It depends on what the meaning of 'is' is."
Yep A+++ and Obama needs slapped down for using these backhanded methods for putting his agenda into effect.
excellent points. of course the POINT is to empty Guantanamo, so this pretend swap is helping to effectuate that. I am heartened to see CNN had this guy’s questionable desertion/AWOL status covered, and I think even the WAPO had an article about how his fellow soldiers are POd about this. I think THIS is something that the rank and file American can “get”. And yeah, it also got the VA scandal covered over in the news cycle.
