A 43-year-old Griffin police officer and father of seven was shot and killed outside of a Waffle House early this morning while working an off-duty security job in full uniform, authorities said.
Three suspects are in custody after the shooting death of Officer Kevin Jordan, an ex-Marine who had been with the Griffin Police Department for four years and often worked security at the restaurant on weekend nights, police spokesman Mike Richardson said.
The altercation began when two men and a woman who allegedly caused a disturbance at a Waffle House on U.S. 19 were asked to leave the restaurant around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Richardson said. A fight broke out after Jordan got them outside and tried to handcuff 28-year-old Chantell Mixon, he said.
Jordan was on the ground trying to restrain Mixon when another man shot him at least three times in the back, and one of the bullets cut through Jordans bulletproof vest, Richardson said. Police identified the suspected gunman as 30-year-old Michael D. Bowman.
Jordans brother, Raymond Jordan, was in the parking lot when the gunfire erupted and shot Bowman, Richardson said. The brother is a civilian who had a permit to carry a gun and was at the restaurant to visit Jordan, police said.

Feral sub-humans. Got to be.
Tweakers, maybe.
Who knew a Waffle House needed armed seucrity?...Any eatery open after 2Am has an armed guard here where I live. Drunks come in, robbers come in and drug dealers come in.
No it isn't.
Makes me cry...
Cop looks mighty big not to be able to control the gal without both of them ending up on the ground. And the cops in Atlanta and the southern suburbs have earned themselves quite a reputation. Whether it is gunning down 90 year old ladies, or hits on political opponents, it’s kind of hard to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Give me a link to video, and I may change my mind. But I certainly won’t trust the AJC when an issue of political correctness comes into play.
We don’ need no stinkin reason.
I’m considering Brazil.
Things seem to show America is alive and what it should be, aside from needing a bit more range time.
One of Bammy’s Boyz shoots a uniformed officer in the back several times (officer dies) and then an American with a gun shoots the bad guy.
The American Way at work.
The shooter even expressed regret for his less than p;erfect shooting.
Still, he deserves a free drink every time he goes into a bar, and I hope his friends do treat him - he earned it.
“Does Georgia still have the death penalty?
Hope so.”
Given that the cop-shooter is on the critical list, the matter is as yet undecided: but one may hope.
;-)
Have you seen the crime rates in Brazil? That is one scary place!

Yes, Georgia has the death penalty. Unfortunately, there is typically a 20-year wait between conviction and sentencing. You need to go to states like Virginia and Oklahoma to see it done up right.
I’m so sorry that I find fault with the militarization of the police in these days, sorry they murder unarmed civilians and kill people’s pets, does that mean I can’t be sorry when things like this happen??? Of course not. Quit twisting things.
IMO, it’s just g-dawful writing.
Shooter was NOT one of Bammy’s people. Both the cop and the CCW holder were black.
Quit lying R2.
You don't know what you're missing. Waffle House is one of my favorites to visit, after Chick-fil-A.
Good, hearty breakfast at a cheap price. Pure Americana.
While he’s waiting on death row, here’s hoping he gets a new girlfriend named Bubba.
Pity the brother didn’t have a better aim.
Saves tax dollars and much whining from the left.
