Google is building a car without a steering wheel.
Sergey Brin, co-founder of the technology titan, told a Southern California tech conference that Google will make 100 prototype cars that drive themselvesand therefore do not need a wheel. Or brake and accelerator pedals.
Instead, there are buttons for go and stop.
A combination of sensors and computing power takes the driving from there.

Is there a search bar?
If it’s Windows-based, it really will be the blue screen of death.

Literally. What could go wrong? Forget to pay your traffic ticket or toll fines and the credit card they had on file is expired; they just whip that vehicle around and drive you to municipal court to pay your fine after they see you have enough in your account to cover it. (due to Obamacare access to your accounts).
I’m sure Google would never use Windows. They have a few of their own operating systems.
Like Android, it is Linux based.
Panic: /dev/brake core dump.
Or Chrome.
Chrome is a web browser.
Linux won’t BSOD, but it can freeze.
There is also the Chrome OS and Chromium OS.
Which is intended to support a system on which the user only wants to browse the web. In such a case there is no need for all the other fooferaw of Linux.
So if the thing goes into a kernel panic on the interstate, or hits a segfault in the autodrive system, where’s the manual override that will let you move the vehicle to a safe location?
Or worse, if the navigation system decides to take you down a private road, or along goat path, or even a road that’s no longer in use? Or, if you’re trying to get to someplace that google maps doesn’t know about yet, like a new housing development?
Sounds like the perfect car for rolling teen partays! No more DWI's. Whatever will MADD do?
I’m excited by this. I have epilepsy and can’t drive, so this would give me my independence back when it came to travelling non-walk-able distances...
Just imagine an EMP burst. No manual back up in a device intended for transportation... That just gives me the creeps.
