WHY ARE THEY SO VALUABLE?

Experts say paper money was illegal in California until the 1870s, so it's extremely rare to find any coins from before that period. Additionally, most of the coins are in mint condition, having been stashed away seemingly immediately after they were minted. They were valued by Don Kagin, a numismatist who is handling the sale and marketing of the coins.

I think this is the same find that the State of CA was trying to claim belonged to it.

My how times have changed. Gold was money and fiat currency was outlawed, then.

Now look where we are, after the collusion of the bankers with the politicians in 1913.

I always say in 1963 a quarter would buy a loaf of bread and it still will today. Just like it will buy a gallon of gas. Its hard to believe how much the dollar has been devalued in our lifetime.

“LOL! I got a silver quarter in change once and thought I had hit the lottery. And to think that within my lifetime you silver quarters, dimes, and half dollars were routine.”

Within my lifetime, that’s all you got!

Certainly within mine. I can vividly remember one of my uncles, who was very good at poker, coming to my grandparents' house after a good night with several candy paper bags full of silver half-dollars and silver dollars. (Sometimes he visited them without such riches. You know how poker can go sometimes.)

I stand corrected. Thank you?

So funny!!

And I just want to say thank you to all of you... your few little comments made me smile in memory of my father. He loved words, sentences, punctuation and grammar, and he had an amazing vocabulary that he often used to test and tease us. I will always appreciate how much I learned from him, and hope one day my kids will feel the same way about me. Till then, I just had to say thank you for the smiles tonight, my heart is happy with the memories you stirred!
