A woman used a filet knife to kill two pit bulls that got out of a yard while she was walking her dogs in a Southern California desert city.
Debbie Duran and a friend were walking her three German shepherds on Wednesday in Apple Valley when she said a pit bull charged them and began attacking her friend and her dog, Jodie. Another pit bull ran up seconds later.
"They had one thing in mind and that was to possibly kill me, to definitely kill my dogs," Duran said, adding that she carries the knife for protection.
But Kathy Suggs, the owner of the pit bulls, said Duran didn't have to kill her year-old dogs, Angel and JoJo.
"She's just here stabbing like a wild, mad lady," Suggs said. "I can't even reach in to get the dog because she's swinging the knife."

I would have done the Same thing. I would not have taken chances with the Pit Bulls.
Good for her. Nicely done, madam. Protect your own as required, as you can, and she did.
The flip side: if your dog in on your property, in a fenced yard, and the police walk up and shoot it, then they are 100% wrong.
If my neighbor brought one in, I’d make it a point to destroy it.
Self-defense is always ok.
If the pit bull owner was in control of her dogs and kept them from starting the attack, all would have been peaceful.
No...no..., there was no need to kill them. She could have simply allowed herself to be torn to shreds.
I am thinking there is a little more history than this story is telling us.
It seems most people who go out to walk there dogs don't think to take along their fillet knife with them.
As a long time owner of a big dog, if you can't control your dog then you shouldn't have a dog.

Suggs has some attitude.

“This lady was walking around, I think, with the intent to kill the dog,” Suggs said. “Who walks around with a butcher knife? We all walk our dogs around here.”
There was probably a prior history of those same dogs being allowed to run loose and charge her dogs during their walk. This time, the Lady said, I’ll be ready.
I’ll remember that figure eight technique that worked for her. As much as I don’t want to hurt animals, I won’t just stand there for the chewing and the chomping.
As a ‘Berzerker gene’ carrier myself, I celebrate her courage and good common sense.
