If I ate all that white garbage--bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, beans--my blood sugar would zoom over 200 and I'd be diabetic like millions of other Americans. It's only by giving up all the processed grains and high-glycemic sugary things like potatoes and rice that my blood sugar has come down into a nice stable healthy range.
For the past thirty years the government has been telling Americans to eat as you do, and now we have an epidemic of people who eat that stuff but can't lose weight or lower their blood sugar and blood pressure no matter how hard they exercise. I'm sincerely glad your diet works for you, but for millions, it's been a recipe for disaster. We are all different, so one thing rarely works for everyone.
Agree with everything you say, except for one small point.
Beans shouldn’t be lumped with bread, potatoes, rice, and pasta. Beans are a good source of protein and don’t spike blood sugar the way the others do, unless of course they’re baked beans with added sugar, or something like that.
My mom was diabetic. I still have an ADA book which describes the benefits of beans for diabetics. Any blood sugar increases are minimized even more by the addition of a protein to the beans (which you probably already know).
Not so, my wife was on type 2 meds and he dr wanted to put her on insulin. But then she suggested Neal Barnard’s Reversing Diabetes. She is no longer on any meds for her diabetes at all and her sugar is fine. It’s taken a couple of years but my BP has dropped and my other digestive problems are gone. It’s true one should avoid white flour products and all processed foods> but you are wrong about potatoes rice and pasta. Pasta has a lower GI than bread because it is more dense. But it is animal fat that is causing your insulin resistance unless of course you have type 1 diabetes and then of course you have a different problem which is not caused by diet and can’t be solved by it either. The US Government does not tell us to eat a Plant based whole food vegan diet at all. My wife lost 35 lbs after going on this diet for 6 months and has maintained that weight loss for 2 years. Half a million people each year go under the knife for heart operations and 50,000 die on the table. It’s not potatoes that are killing them, it’s animal products like cheese, beef and chicken which are clogging their arteries.
