My favorite apple.
Apple prices are a good indicator of food price sticker shock. Since when is $2.00 + per pound acceptable?
Umm...sweet?
There is one in my lunchbox right now.
Honeycrisp apples.....just the name makes your mouth water.
best apples EVER.
Hopefully, this means the price will drop.
Nope. Freshly picked Cortlands are the best apple ever. Unfortunately, just a few days off the tree they start to get mushy.
That would be the Pippin.
I’ll have to try one. I usually go for Macintosh because they’re small.
I live in NW WA where we get them straight from the farm from August until January. They are by far the best tasting apple.
Saw some in a store in Texas and they sucked, which is weird because they only require cold storage to keep for a long time.
Mine too.
Apple Layer: In the bowl of a food processor, combine the sugar and the scraped vanilla bean seeds; process until the seeds are well dispersed in the sugar. In a large bowl, combine the apples, vanilla/sugar mixture, and the remaining apple layer ingredients; mix well until apples are evenly coated before pouring into sprayed oblong baking dish.
INGREDIENTS 4 1/2 to 5 pounds honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch cubes or slices 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and seeds scraped 2/3 cup white granulated sugar 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1-2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon salt
Crumble Topping: processor sugar/vanilla seeds til seeds are well dispersed . Add the flour, cinnamon, and salt; pulse a couple of times to incorporate. Add the chilled butter cubes and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. With your hands, squeeze small amounts of the crumb mixture together to form clumps before covering the apple layer (not all of the crumbs will clump - that's okay).
INGREDIENTS 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and seeds scraped 1 cup white granulated sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon salt 16 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled, cut into cubes
Bake uncovered on center rack 450 deg 45 minutes. Cool at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with ice cream or a dollop of lightly sweetened Vanilla Whipped Cream.
Be prepared to pay a buck or more per....
They are juicy but not my favorite...
I’ve noticed!
Great apple, but $3.57 per lb. at Walmart in central Florida.
