Legendary conservative columnist George Will says he is an atheist. [ ]
Im an amiable, low voltage atheist, Will explained. I deeply respect religions and religious people. The great religions reflect something constant and noble in the human character, defensible and admirable yearnings.
I am just not persuaded. Thats all, he added.

I have no problem with this position, which is very similar to that of John Derbyshire.
I wonder how he explains to himself how everything got here?
I guess this also explains why he’s so limp, has no backbone...
...after all, if you don’t believe in God, how can you believe in true Righteousness?
I have no problem with live and let live atheists.
You’re are mostly out of touch as well and not a conservative.
Amen.
Exactly. Not conservative at all. And for the skeptical scientists out there I have a simple question: Assuming there is no underlying, unseen, life force out there, what are the odds that the universe was born with the capacity to generate self-aware beings from the matter... that seemingly...came from nothing... in the first place? Sorry George, it’s not only probable that there is a God, it’s actually quite unlikely that there isn’t a God.
Me neither, but it also explains why their views tend to shift with the prevailing winds.
John Derbyshire, really? That guy has enough problems of his own.
I am always sad to hear someone say that. Even if I were not a Christian, I am sure I would believe in God. I look at the miracle of creation and see God’s handiwork. I know others might see it otherwise, but that’s how I look at it.
Exactly. There is no moral order without a supernatural pretext. Period. George is confused, but for him that’s situation normal.
How many of those exist?
The Biblical principle of the just living by faith is one that the Founding Fathers stood upon. The USA’s constitution, John Adams made clear, is not for those that reject morality and religion; such people can’t be governed by it.
I think while technically an “atheist”, Trey Parker of South Park had a great observation..
“Basically... out of all the ridiculous religion stories which are greatly, wonderfully ridiculous the silliest one I’ve ever heard is, ‘Yeah... there’s this big giant universe and it’s expanding, it’s all gonna collapse on itself and we’re all just here just ‘cause... just ‘cause’. That, to me, is the most ridiculous explanation ever.”
I agree. Entropy does not allow for higher forms of life, or any forms at all.
I don’t see why anyone would ever have any problem with anyone else’s personal religious persuasion, as long as it doesn’t break your leg or pick your pocket.
Lots. In fact I suspect there are still quite a few here at FR.

And might I add, just to humor the perplexed Mr. Will: Not only did all of the above happen, it also miraculously found a moral order floating in the ether that allows atheists to somehow claim to be conservative.
I’m not that surprised. George’s whole nature is that of a sceptic or perfunctory contrarian (aka Devil’s Advocate). Playing that role in on air discussions has made a good living for him. He can retreat into a position of neutrality when it serves his needs. At least George Will does not strike me as one of those Angry Atheists who is focused on destroying what they do not believe in.
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.Looks like the Bible agrees with your viewpoint.
Psalm 19:1 KJV
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
