I and my siblings picked cotton for 3 cents a pound. I remember the first trip to the cotton gin, Uncle Buck paid us in cash and I went immediately to the dime store and bought a monopoly set.
Yes we worked for our Uncle.
But surely this “lesson” lacked realism.
Many years ago, my niece’s teacher found out I was a southerner. She (the teacher) actually wanted me to steal a twig or two of cotton.
My grandparents were cotton farmers and picked loads of cotton.
I picked cotton too...(about 8 hours...that was enough for me. I got an education, lol)
My grandmother and grandfather picked Cotten, hoed it too. When I was young and stayed home from school I went to work with them. I’d help Grandpa til I was tired and then ride on his sack.
