In those days 1977 (ep V) those special effects in a movie theater looked and sounded impressive, it was much of the show.
By the third movie Return of Jedi VI 1993 it became obvious that the theme had run out of gas ('follow the Force Luke' GAG), the acting sucked, the lines were silly, it wasn't believable that they were twins and the ending of the first three movies with the Teddy Bear army victory did it for me. I thought 'WOW, this is stupid'.

I remember sitting in the theater with my girlfriend for the first movie; she’d been bugging me to take her to see it.
When the Imperial Star Destroyer cruises in from the top of the screen at the beginning, chasing the Rebel ship, and NEVER seemed to end, I was thinking “This is beyond cool...”
It was amazing. Giant theater screen, surround sound, the whole place reverberating with the blasts of the weapons...
The TIE fighters, and of course the Death Star attack scene “STAY ON TARGET!!!!” all of it.... Very cool... momentarily forgot my girlfriend’s considerable, err, “attributes” beneath her blouse... (yeah... I know, I’m a pig)... :^).

Iirc the 2nd Death Star was orginally intended to have been constructed over the Wookie home planet, by Wookie slave labor. But for some reason Lucas decided to go with the Ewok home planet instead.
I’ve heard it was money related ... Either going with the Ewoks were cheaper and he was at his budget limit, or they presented a new sales channel for making additional marketing cash. Knowing Lucas it was probably the latter.
Had they gone instead with an army of enslaved Wookies rising up against their oppressors ...
Well, I’ll leave it at that.
