May the angels sing him home.
He was a gamer for the ages. Tough gritty and always present

A lot of people forget that he played most of the games during their perfect season.

He also helped win Super Bowl V for the Colts after Unitas got hurt. Somewhat made up for him helping the Colts lose Super Bowl III against the Jets.

Back in the day before the NFL became the National Felons League, I distinctly remember him filling in for an injured Unitas and playing really well.
RIP ...

Between him and Don Strock, the Dolphins had the best backup QBs.

hard to remember when, in our youth, the NFL was still exciting and something still, somewhat, new. Morrall exemplified that spirit.
Today, and for the last 10 years, I’ve hardly watched any games.
But, back the, WOW.

I was living in Miami then. He used to have a rocking chair I think in the locker room. They called hkm the old man. I think he was 39. He came in for Griese and it was like somebody sprinkled fairy dust. What a fabulous year it was.

I had forgotten that Griese came back in the 2nd half against the Steelers in the AFC Title game.
Shula had a tough decision as to whom to start in the Super Bowl. Guess he made the right one. But still, where would they have been without Morrall?

I'd go with the Rams.

I’m with you. I don’t watch much pro ball any more. Fortunately the local high school team is fun to watch (though not particularly good). Not a bad way to spend a Friday night eating brisket, drinking sweet tea, and listening to the home town crowd

High school and college is where it, the game, started. (the first college game was played in 1869 and the pro’s didn’t get going until 1892 and barely at that)(NFL started in 1923)
I’d rather have a non-pro team playing its heart out, with good or not-so-good results, as a bunch of thugs playing for millions of dollars.

As a Redskin fan in those days, I liked Earl back then.
A real man.

It really wasn’t until the 70s that the NFL became the dominant professional sports league.

I remember watching SB I with a fair number of empty seats and little preceding media “hype”.
It almost seems impossible to believe now.

Always a winner. A big part of the undefeated Dolphins team. Great guy. RIP Earl. Heaven can’t wait.
