I think in Transcendence it mostly showed his head. I saw him on Jimmy Kimmel awhile back, and he’s gotten quite porky, er, portly.
He lost that “thing” that made him so bankable.
Frankly POTC II and (espcially) III were pretty awful. And not just Lone Ranger but damn near every film he has done has been at best a break-even and many big losers.
He is a white Eddie Murphy.
He is richer than God so he should just give up.
I went and saw Heaven is For Real. First time I have set foot in a movie theater for 12 years. A very, VERY good movie, be sure to catch it either in theaters or when it comes out on DVD or cable.
Johnny who?
It all starts with the script. I don’t care who is in it. Tell a good story well and they’ll show up. Tell that same story poorly and it bombs.
From what I have heard, the script is terrible.
As much as I think Depp is oversold, the fact that this movie bombed (so far) should not be put squarely on Johnny Depp’s thin shoulders. This is a case of new wine in an old bottle. I saw the previews while waiting for another feature. Everything about the movie was dreadful, grim and repulsive. I don’t want to pay almost a Baker’s Dozen dollars just to see the world being ruined. Some Dystopic films are necessary, and bring something new for consideration. I saw nothing original about this adaptaion in the previews. His character was not easy to like of even care about. J. Depp is mostly not believable as a leading man. Remember ‘The Tourist’, that crater of a movie he did with Angelina Jolie? Who thought of putting those two together, I wonder? Talk about Fire and Ice.
If you showed me a picture of only Johnny Depp, I still wouldn’t know who he is.
taking your main character and jamming him inside a computer for half the movie is a great way to destroy any action the plot might have had.
Not to worry, he’ll probably show up as Moses in a remake of the Ten Commandments.
What’s a Johnny Depp?
The problem was with the script. It was good until about halfway and then it turned into a made for television movie. I think the writer didn’t know where to go with the story.
Let me get this straight. Some idiot out there thought that Easter weekend would be a great time to debut a movie about man creating life and the resurrection into artificial intelligence?
If I was an investor in this movie, I would be suing producers to prevent this from being released Easter weekend. Heck, it is almost a sure money loser being released before late summer after the action movie glut where someone might actually be interested in this type of a story line.
But to release it EASTER weekend? I know many in Hollywood have zero respect for Christianity, but eghads, that's just pouring money down the drain for no good reason.
I enjoyed the Ninth Gate and Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas.
Hollyweird never releases ticket sale numbers. Would be interesting to see the actual count of butts in the seats compared to past films.
Public Enemies was pretty good. I bought that flick and watch it when flying somewhere....
!
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer Red.
Johnny Depp is overrated. Never made a good movie.
I thought the Lone Ranger was hilarious...I didn’t know it flopped and I am surprised it did...
Johnny Depp is a one trick pony.
He can take any role well known or unknown and render a creepy version of whatever it was.
