Willie Nelson about to become fifth degree black belt Posted on April 16, 2014 | By Craig Hlavaty
Country legend and Texas icon Willie Nelson could kick your butt in a fight. No, not with his trusty guitar Trigger or throwing stars strategically hidden under his cowboy hat.
Nelson is due to receive his fifth degree black belt in the art of Gong Kwon Yu Sul, a modern Korean martial arts system, on April 28 at a martial arts studio in Austin, according to his publicist, Elaine Shock.
The following day, the troubadour will turn 81, which should make us all feel incredibly lazy.
Shock said that for the past 20 years Nelson has been training in the art of Tae Kwon Do and Gong Kwon Yu Sul, often practicing while in his bus on his seemingly never-ending tour with his family of musicians.
His teacher at Master Martial Arts, the Korean-born Grand Master Sam Um, also directed Nelson in the 2007 film Fighting With Anger.

Written and recorded by Waylon Jennings as a friendly jab at Willie, and covered here by the Rolling Stones:

Willie once said that people keep asking him when he’s going to retire. He said his response is always, “Retire from what? All I do is golf and play music.” I guess we can add martial arts to that.

Where is the money for your computer, smart phone, apps, software etc going politically? Not many artists are conservative in their money giving. You’d have to just chuck all music if you took their political views personally
I can just picture it: OLD Willie floppin' around on the mat, trying to keep his belt from choking him. :o)
LOL! I heard he evern out-smoked Snoop Dog who is like the biggest pot head in the biz today. Willie kept going one joint after another and Snoop said enough which is why he agreed to record “Roll me up and smoke me when I die” with him ha ha. Go figure: A gangsta rapper singing with a “cracker” ha ha! He’s got a lot of lib stuff about him that drives me nuts but when it comes to music he is my #1 man.
He’s also a very small guy.
And after that he will want some cheetoes and beer and maybe beef jerky. And another toke maybe.
I am somewhat skeptical this claim.
Does he use his walker to break bricks he first drooled on to soften them with?
So don’t listen to him.
If I expected everyone in the world to adhere to my views, it would be a scary place—filled with Lucky Charms and Tuna salad sandwiches.
Had never seen that before. Thanks. Mick and the Boys never disappoint.
