It’s times like this I wish I had a smart phone.
Wonderful!
THank you!
A tissue alert should have been issued. ;)
Great post. Thanks.
Thanks!
My neighbor took an Honor Flight last year in the midst of Obama’s shut down of the memorials. The vets just went around the barriers. A great time was had by all.
Thankfully, our wonderful politicians weren’t in the midst of another spitting contest, and these people weren’t met by armed federales in front of barricades, telling them the open-air memorial built to honor them was “closed”.
Today is Emancipation Day in DC. Federal Government and schools closed. I just heard this on the news. I guess they do this yearly. I never heard of it before. A day to celebrate Lincoln in Washington DC. Crowds are big in DC according to the news for this event. Concerts start at 4 o’clock.
Tissue Alert!
Thanks for posting, don-o.
Tell the missus I said hello.
Whenever I think of combat vets, particularly of the WWI/Korea era,I remember the words of a Marine General or Navy Admiral (can’t recall which) in assessing a particular Pacific island battle that had just been won. This officer noted that with the Marines involved in that battle “uncommon courage was a common commodity”.I think that can be said for every Soldier,Sailor,Airman and Marine who served during the war.
Previous post should read WWII era...but vets of WWI certainly served bravely as well.
My uncle got to take part in an honor flight. He said it was the best day of his life, other than his wedding and the day his child was born.
I’ve been at the Baltimore airport several times when honor flight rolled in. Always make it a point to be standing around and clapping as our hero’s go by.
A friend of mine organized a welcome home party for Col. Terry Lakin, who was jailed for asking about POTUS eligibility. While our group of about 100 were waiting for Col. Lakin, I heard an honor flight was inbound, so we had a huge ovation for them.
The WWII Memorial and Arlington take on extra meaning when they are present, except when the Moron in Chief and his future HHS Secretary lapdog close them down.
Another one had just came back from DC where he went to view the cherry blossoms.
He mentioned seeing these Honor Vets and gave them a round of applause.
So, when I saw this thread I e-mailed him the info.-tom
My father-in-law went a few years ago when he was 82 & has talked about it ever since. He had a great time & while very tired when he got home to Omaha, said he’d do it all over again.
