Whenever I think of combat vets,particularly of the WWI/Korea era,I remember the words of a Marine General or Navy Admiral (can’t recall which) in assessing a particular Pacific island battle that had just been won.This officer noted that with the Marines involved in that battle “uncommon courage was a common commodity”.I think that can be said for every Soldier,Sailor,Airman and Marine who served during the war.
