This is a comparison of a Formula 1 pit stop in the 1950s to a more current one. It's amazing to see how far the technology has progressed looking at them side by side.

LOL, I remember having to beat the carp out of a few of them years ago! The ‘Ol Leather & Brass hammer.
NASCAR Stops are actually more impressive due to the limitations. IMO.

ROFLMAO!
I stopped following F1 a few years ago. Didn’t know that it no longer mandates refueling.
I carried a VERY LARGE lead hammer in the "boot" for just such eventualities.
It is just a “sign of the times” comparison.
Not really about cars or tools.
F1 doesn’t refuel anymore.
What you start with is all you get.
I agree. Nascar guys aren’t allowed to pre-stage the wheel/tire combo, they have to carry it to the car and can’t cross the wall until the car is stopped.
F-1 and Indycar have the tires sitting right there and the guys are in place.
wow, i didn’t know that. Thanks for the info :)
That guy in front is hoping the car STOPS!!!
From 1950 to 1960, the Indy 500 counted towards the F1 driver's championship, so many F1 teams competed in it.
The biggest difference were the rules changes. The 1950 team was limited to four crew members, including the driver. How many were on the 2013 F1 crew? Also, the 1950 pit stop also took on fuel. The 2013 stop was tires only.
And Green Stamps!
I also gave up on Formula One, which became a bit of a drag with the German Vettel winning every week.
I’ve recently gone back to it and there was some great racing the other weekend between the Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Really exciting stuff - they finished 1-2 but it looked dicey at one point and I thought they might take themselves off.
And Ferrari isn’t as fast as some of the other pit crews!
Between these two dates F1 for quite a stretch had no planned pit stops. You basically raced from start to finish. If you came into the pits it meant trouble and you were usually out of contention. As a result F1 pit crews were somewhat lackadaisical and Italian Ferrari pit crews were the butt of many a joke. When F1 reintroduced planned pit stops the F1 teams had to smarten up quickly since the race now depended on quick pit stops.
