REM or Nirvana? There are songs by Nirvana I can enjoy but REM is as toxic as it gets. I’d rather listen to Springsteen and you know how I feel about Springsteen!

I agree that they were over-rated, but the (completely unexpected) success of Nevermind is undeniable. It was huge, and was an earthquake that changed the music scene at that time.

I watched a few Nirvana videos last night to refresh my memory, and I tend to agree. The lyrics were mostly crap, the guitar playing just a cut above average, the songs sounded like something I could approximate in an hour or so, and the mood was generally depressing.
