Does this mean their coach of less than a year will be fired?

It was a night crying out for a Manchester United hero, someone to drag them out of their mire of mediocrity, an occasion for someone to pull them out of the long siege of Munich and produce something extraterrestrial in Bayern Munich’s spacecraft of a stadium.

They had been looking at Wayne Rooney to deliver perhaps the greatest performance of his United career, to conjure up one of those magical moments that might see their team land one of the greatest victories in the club’s long and distinguished European history. Alas, it was not to be.

I’m an Everton man and all I cared about was how Arsenal choked against them on the weekend. 4th place and they’re in.

one of the most disappointing nights in Wayne Rooney's long career so far

Wayne Rooney left to mourn crucial chance that got away

This is what Moyes needed. Someone to make a hero of himself, someone to write his name into the folklore and fabric of United’s great history.

Moyes has refused to put any blame on star Wayne Rooney after the striker missed opportunities

The only true constant in football is that rumours will fly and speculation runs rampant. Moyes, in a roundabout way, has now become the cat in Erwin Schrodinger’s theoretical experiment. No one really knows if Moyes managerial life at United is either alive or dead.

What’s funny is that Atletico’s goalkeeper is on loan from Chelsea...Usually it stipulates in the loan agreement that a player will not face the team that loaned him out, so I wonder if that will apply.

I really like Munich. Spent a lot of time there. Good people all around [Wolfgang Rudell, and his family are GREAT people].

I don't care about their football (soccer).

Manchester United count cost of Champions League exit
For a brief moment in Munich, Manchester United dared to dream.

As it was, that hope was gone in 60 seconds of Patrice Evra's goal and United were instead left to consider a very different reality.

Sport Football Manchester United talking sport 620 David Moyes embarks on mission improbable
"My focus is on getting a side together to get back in the Champions League."

Moyes could hardly have said anything else. Part of his remit is public tub-thumping and putting on a brave face as he starts the greatest overhaul of a United squad since Sir Alex Ferguson broke up the drinking culture at the club in the late 1980s.

Moyes must replace Nemanja Vidic, who will leave in the close season, plus Rio Ferdinand (probably) and most likely Patrice Evra – a big void to fill. He has also to add at least one European-class, game-shaping midfielder.

Manchester United to install beds at training ground for sleepy players
It’s tough being a footballer – getting paid millions of pounds to kick a ball around for a couple of hours each day, before playing one or two games a week.

But it’s about to get an awful lot easier for the hard-working souls at Manchester United, after the club reportedly gave the go-ahead for a sleeping area to be built at their training ground.

Man U aces Welbeck, Cleverley 'drown' CL heartache by dancing, partying
Manchester United players Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley were reportedly seen dancing at a night club after the Old Trafford side was knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

While United fans were drowning their sorrows, Welbeck and Cleverley were both seen dancing in front of friends as they hopped from club to club.

Rooney to 'miss rest of the season'
Manchester United are considering resting Wayne Rooney, possibly for the rest of the season, as he recovers from a chipped bone in his toe, according to reports.

Rooney needed to have a pain-killing injection to play in United's 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, manager David Moyes said.
