The trouble started about 8 p.m. Saturday night as sheriff's deputies responded to two stabbings on Camino Del Sur. Two people were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are unknown.
About 9:30 p.m., a UCSB police officer was hit in the head with a backpack full of liquor bottles. Two Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies also responded and were injured. One deputy was hit with a bottle and will undergo surgery on his hand. The violence escalated and another deputy was hit in the head with a brick. The UCSB police officer and both deputies are expected to be fine.
About 10:30 p.m., it turned into a riot with people in the crowd tearing down stop signs, setting mattresses on fire, and throwing more bottles, bricks and other objects at law enforcement. All emergency personnel were told to leave the area for their safety including paramedics and county firefighters.

The cops were called to a stabbing and a few of them are dumb enough to get smacked with bricks and beer bottles. Dumb cops. Guess they should have ignored the stabbings. Darn them for doing their job.
Youths.
It’s not a party until two people get stabbed.
Too late for in-before-the-first-cops-are-always-wrong.
First, we could upgrade the BATFE and add Knives so that it would become BATFEK.
Then we need to investigate the use of bricks and mattresses as weapons of terror so maybe we could create the Office of Bricks and Mattresses Administration or OBMA./s
Do you always bring a tank to a medical emergency?
“Mobs are a dangerous phenomena, be it a protest, college revelry, or Trevon supporters, or patriotic revolutionaries”
Don’t forget the patriotic tea party. They are liable to leave a “protest” area cleaner than they found it!
I thought the quiet college town of Saratoga, NY would be safe.
A couple of summers as we drove through it, drunken white college "students" were jumping up on random car hoods and tops and "dancing".
We got away unscathed due to the high hood of our Grand Cherokee and my erratic driving.
It takes a few hours longer to travel now, but the scenery is better, and hopefully the security too.
Oh heck....let’s just cut to the chase and have everyone wear shock collars.
Tell them it’s for their own safety.
no I think it is entitled students

With 12,000 drunken idiots tossing bottles, yeah,I might.

Must of been this guy leaving town.

You have a peculiar opinion on what constitutes a good time.
I saw the headline and thought it was 1970 again.
When I attended UCSB way back when, mattresses would appear at parties from time to time to soften the fall of those people who would take in too much nitrous oxide. How these kids ever got their hands on a tank of N2O was never learned, but this was quite popular in IV at one time. It looks like the student ghetto hasn't changed much since then as riots and wild parties were common there 30 years ago. Stabbings, not so much. But there was always a population of non students in this town that were scary people.
I am sure that if these were all Blacks, at say, Jacksonville Beach, you would be singing a different tune.
Because you know me well, and know that I’m a huge racist. Got it.
I didn’t forget the tea party. I only hope that there is a political solution, and that a patriot mob will not be necessary.
Mobs always bring excess, and it would not be pretty.
