Interesting article. He references the years after the end of the war in 1865.

While there was still a government, there was a lot of lawlessness. In the county where I grew up, the people did band together to help each other. They also had vigilante groups to stop the marauders.

The vigilantes were called The Baldknobbers, because of the clearings on top of hills where they had their meetings. It was not ideal, and there was still a lot of violence, but it wasn't anything like the walking dead either.

I do think that the government could be a big issue, if they decide to confiscate the stuff that's been stored - calling it hoarding, and maybe confiscate the gold like Roosevelt did.

I do think that things will be worse than the end of the civil war, because so many no longer share the traditional Christian values.
