Washington (AFP) - Social media erupted in outrage and counter-attacks Friday after US comedian Stephen Colbert used language that mocked Asian Americans in what was intended as an anti-racist jibe.
Colbert, who is liberal but parodies a blustery conservative on his late night talk show, took aim at the Washington Redskins football team whose name is considered offensive by many Native Americans.
Colbert mocked team owner Dan Snyder who has announced a fund to support Native Americans while rejecting calls to change the name.

Those offended need to grow up. If you're that thinned skinned about your race maybe the US isn't for you.
And blacks have struggled in the US like no other race. The time for their grievance is over, but there is a terrible history there...which started with other blacks enslaving them in Africa and selling them off.

A few years ago I read an article about the Vaudeville era. Apparently Vaudeville entertainers frequently made ethnic jokes onstage, especially about the Irish, Jews, and Asians. According to the article, Irish, Jews, and Asians in the audiences laughed as hard as anybody else. I think the way we are now, so touchy and offended, whining and demanding apologies and getting people fired or forcing them to go to sensitivity training, etc., is utterly ridiculous.
