ROCK HILL — Three Rock Hill teens have been arrested in the alleged gang assault on two other teenagers, one of whom police say was shot in the leg with a flare gun two weeks ago.

Police on Thursday arrested Malik McCullough, 18, Thomas Hagins, 17, and Dontavious Gordon, 17, charging them with third-degree assault and battery by a mob, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy, according to Rock Hill police documents. By Friday morning, they were held at the city jail awaiting afternoon bond hearings.

At about 8 p.m. Mar. 13, police were sent to a Highland Street home after a woman reported that while cooking, she looked out her window, saw a group of young men fighting, heard a gunshot and then saw a bright light flash, according to a Rock Hill police report. Police were later sent to a home on Eastwood Drive, where a boy, 15, said a group of boys attacked him and a friend, 14, when they got off the school bus after leaving an after school sports program. He managed to identify some of his attackers before he went to Piedmont Medical Center to receive treatment for injuries he suffered.

The second victim told police the boys shouted “600,” an alleged gang operating in the area, the report states. One of the assailants carried what the victim thought was a shotgun. He and his friend ran, but their attackers caught them, pushing the youngest victim against a car and choking him. He was then shot in the leg with a flare gun. He suffered from dizziness, bleeding in his mouth and nose, a burn on his left leg, a cut on his face and a cut inside his mouth.

A day later, one of the victims provided additional details, telling police the attack happened after he and his friend left Parks Grocery on East Main Street. Once the assailants began chasing them, the victims ran towards Keels Avenue, jumped a brick fence and hid in the bushes. The attackers found them and began assaulting them, warning the victims to stay off their side of town.

The victim recognized one of the suspects as “Tay Gordon” and the other one as Thomas Hagins, who took off his mask during the assault. He said the third person as “Khail,” later identified as Malik McCullough. During the assault, the suspects stole one of the victims’ cell phone, backpack, ID and keys to his house.
