While in Atlantic City a few summers ago, all the push carts were propelled by foreign students. I hear the federal government has banned that and there are not as many. Sad, I enjoyed chatting with them and the ride back to my hotel was nice after a long walk.

I just looked up the J1 visa.... employers don’t have to pay matching FICA taxes so it is cheaper for them to hire those exchange students than the local kids.

Taking a break from wambling through and making sense of some old computer files my compadre e-mailed-I must make a concise list of the parts of it that make sense by tomorrow...

My mind starts to wamble
Each and every time I hear
Some obamabot assuring me
That the end is not near

I shake my head to clear it
And turn away in disgust,
Wishing things were better
Instead of turning to dust

But we must go to ground
Till Autumn, at the least-
Then if can just get tough
We’ll have a rat catching feast...

Dedicated to John "Judas" Boehner:

Wamblin' Wose, Wamblin' Wose,
Why you wamble, Heaven knows.
Guileless coxcomb, lacking backbone,
Bonehead begone, you Wamblin' Wose.

Apologies to the late great Nat King Cole.

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

EAGLES UP! Once more unto the breach, my friends, once more!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Leaves are fallin’ all around, time I was on my way
Thanks to you, I’m much obliged for such a pleasant stay
but now it’s time for me to go, the autumn moon lights my way
for now I smell the rain, and with it, pain
and it’s headed my way
Aw, sometimes I grow so tired
but I know I’ve got one thing I got to do

A-wamble on, and now’s the time, the time is now
Sing my song, I’m goin’ ‘round the world, I gotta find my girl
On my way, I’ve been this way ten years to the day
Wamble on, gotta find the queen of all my dreams

Got no time to for spreadin’ roots, the time has come to be gone
And though our health we drank a thousand times
it’s time to wamble on

A-wamble on, and now’s the time, the time is now
Sing my song, I’m goin’ ‘round the world
I’ve gotta find my girl
On my way, I’ve been this way ten years to the day
I gotta wamble on, I gotta find the queen of all my dreams
I tell you no lie

Mine’s a tale that can’t be told, my freedom I hold dear
How years ago in days of old when magic filled the air
‘twas in the darkest depths of Mordor, mm-I met a girl so fair
but Gollum and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her
her, her, yeah, and ain’t nothin’ I can do, no

I guess I’ll keep on ramblin’, I’m gonna
Sing my song/Sh-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah, I’ve gotta find my baby
I’m gonna wamble on, sing my song
Gonna work my way all around the world
Baby, baby/Wamble on, yeah

Chickens are pretty easy. They just need housing and attention twice a day to let them out and close them up. They put themselves to bed each night, which is very cool. They will eat all the bugs in your yard. Unfortunately, they will also eat your favorite plants if they can get to them. They are great fun to watch, easy-going, and grooming is a breeze compared to cats or dogs. Mine come when called or if I shake a box of raisins. Their feed is cheaper than dog or cat food too and they give you something back for it. We are thoroughly enjoying ours and proud to say we made it out of Tractor Supply without any chicks last weekend. Although, I saw someone advertising 2 young female alpacas on Craig’s List this week that looked very tempting...but we don’t have a farm so I was told no.

That customer with the brindle Bullmastiff is at the owner/mechanic’s shop here, getting a pipe bumper welded onto his truck-we let his puppy and Husky girl say hi from a safe distance, both leashed, then Husky girl went inside to eat-I guess she thought he might try to get her food.

That dog is even bigger than he was a few weeks ago, but what a sweet baby-as soon as he was out of the truck, he ran over to me and leaned against me like he remembered me. His owner said it was okay, so I brought him a couple of the American rawhide treats I get for Husky girl along with a bowl of water-he simply inhaled them, then drooled all over my shirt while I petted him.

That handsome, loving creature is less than 10 months old-I wonder how old they have to be to grow into their scary/ferocious reputation? I sincerely would never want to see that side of any kind of a Mastiff-they seem to have become one of the preferred dogs-du-jour out here in the country in recent years-every other property seems to have some breed of Mastiff-the gray Neapolitan ones are particularly popular. The one my neighbor had where I used to live was a sweetie, too...

My sister’s stepson’s family has one and they just love him. He is as gentle as a kitten but has cost them a fortune in surgical repairs because he is a habitual sock swallower. He will lean on you and it will just about knock you down.

One of my friend’s from HS had one and it turned on him, viciously one day. He’s a cop and saw himself as a tough guy from day one.

I’ve been told that the swallowing of non-food objects is a hazard with some large breeds-either way, since I always have a dog, I always keep such things in a drawer or behind a door.

I’ve never heard of a Bullmastiff or any other any Mastiff attacking an owner-they seem more famous for attacking anyone they view as a trespasser/threat to their owners-after all, they were originally bred for just that-the Romans took a type of Mastiff they called a Molossus to war with them. It seems to me like carrying a loaded gun-don’t point it at anyone you don’t mean to shoot...

I love guarding breed dogs-have had three over the years, they were part of the family, and we never had an incident-they require a hand that is as gentle as it is firm, and obedience training in puppyhood to be a fine companion-if you abuse them, they WILL go after you one day.

The kids had a friend come over and she took off her socks and shoes at the door and when it was time to go, couldn’t find her socks. Luckily, they were the thin little girl type anklets. He didn’t need surgery that time.

I can just imagine the panic of looking for those little socks, then realizing the dog ate them. Is there any special reason anyone suspects as to why he likes socks?

That explains why I had never seen or heard of it until the Burghers spoke up. It’s a regional thing.

That makes sense if the objects belong to the dog’s owner-a lot of dogs carry around something belonging to the owner that holds their scent when the owner is not home, and they even destroy it sometimes-like shoes-but they don’t swallow it. The only people I’ve known who owned dogs that literally ate clothing had retrievers of some kind as pets.

i do think there’s something about large breed dogs and eating nonfood things. my SIL’s good friend had to put their dog down [some sort of lab or golden] bc it kept eating ROCKS. no idea why. mine will eat plenty of gross stuff but it has to be edible. Jules more than Chan, she’s much more discriminating. Though she ate poop as a pup, but she must have grown out of it.

Awful-was there no way for surgery to save the poor dog? I’ve heard of dogs dying from eating rocks-I guess you would have to keep a muzzle on them whenever they are not watched, to keep that from happening.
