This was before laws that allowed people to drop their baby at a fire station or police station anonymously. She wanted the baby to live. A bathroom in a busy BK would be a place you could privately leave a baby and know that someone would find it before it would die from exposure.
This is a story a million times better than the baby found in a garbage can.

It’s much better than many women do. I read a story once about a woman (not an American, she was from somewhere in Asia, but I forget where, China? Vietnam? someplace like that). Her mother abandoned her in some dirty old tenement stairway. But she was very happy to be alive.
