Surprised to see coyotes in NY although I know they’ve been there a while, but why?
Dead coyote now. I guess they are checking for rabies.
big problem - they caused a hell of a problem with the deer hunt this past fall - there were days when I would take the atv around my property and not see a single deer track and packs of coyote tracks - some big ones too - 40-50#
Had one square off with my wife in the front yard about 4 yrs ago - I was watching from the house and she stayed in her car til it ambled off
Highly adaptable, broad range. Plus, the “eastern coyote” is a coyote-wolf hybrid. It’s much larger than the western variant and is much bolder in certain circumstances.
... oh yeah, pack hunters too.
Our coyotes out here (Arizona) are little skinny things that are light in weight and run off the minute you look at them.
coyote-wolf blend. wow.

That is like what we have here in Colorado.
They get pets and rabbits in the open-space behind my house but do not seem interested in doing anything but running when they see a human. Thank goodness.
Coyotes are a real problem here in Connecticut.
They get bolder every year.
Plenty of deer, rodents, small pets. They don’t have any competition for food and they’ve adapted to living near people.
Had a rabid coyote (foam dripping from its mouth) walk right past me about 15 years ago. Maybe 15 feet away from me while I was dragging trash to the curb. It didn’t even know I was there and it didn’t care about all the noise I was making. I was lucky.
Every few weeks one of my idiot neighbors puts up a missing dog sign. They keep putting their little dogs in the back yard and then wonder what happened to them.
Lady, it’s a freaking Yorkie. He should be asleep on the couch and not in the back yard. Personally I think it’s a Lake Placid thing. She is either feeding the local coyotes or the birds of prey. Problem is her dogs cost hundreds of dollars.
Saw one crossing the road. Might have been a wolf.
Sucker looked like a sabertooth tiger. BIG.
Coyotes are nasty varmints. I had a big mommy and her almost grown pup stand up to me once. I was riding my bicycle to work some years back and at a dark (pre-dawn) section of road I could see the pair on the shoulder. I stopped about 12 to 15 yards away and dismounted keeping the bike between me and them. The mom made a peculiar threatening noise. I started to unzip my daypack to grab my camera and then they retreated.
My daughter lives in SA outside Babcock and 1604. There are coyotes. Every once in awhile, the sound of a .223 will ring out...someone taking out a coyote. Bill McManus would not be pleased.
I encountered one of the beasts while jogging on Cape Cod one morning as he crossed the road in front of me. He stopped and stared at me then carried on into the woods. I had no way of defending myself if he decided to attack.
The lady needs a better dog.
Lived in Fairfield County CT several years ago. Our home was inland near reservoirs with large tracks of uninhabited wooded areas surrounding them. Deer were a problem and eastern coyotes were beginning to make an appearance. Lots of wild life in this ideal area with little hunting permitted.
Was out scouting deer on my property in York County (PA) about 10 years ago. 1 came bounding through the tall grass at me. He didn’t see me right away, and the wind was in my face (so he didn’t smell me). Sucker up to with about 12 feet, slammed on the brakes and veered off. Got a good close look at him. BIG.
She needs lessons from our governor Rick.
I got one a couple weeks ago with my .22 mag.
I live in a suburb of the Twin Cities. See 1 or 2 a week. They are so common that the local police have a coyote section on their web page. Do not call the police. They will not respond. Just stay out of the coyotes way and keep your pets in the house.
Seriously.
