Coyotes are a real problem here in Connecticut.
They get bolder every year.
Plenty of deer, rodents, small pets. They don’t have any competition for food and they’ve adapted to living near people.
Had a rabid coyote (foam dripping from its mouth) walk right past me about 15 years ago. Maybe 15 feet away from me while I was dragging trash to the curb. It didn’t even know I was there and it didn’t care about all the noise I was making. I was lucky.
Every few weeks one of my idiot neighbors puts up a missing dog sign. They keep putting their little dogs in the back yard and then wonder what happened to them.
Lady, it’s a freaking Yorkie. He should be asleep on the couch and not in the back yard. Personally I think it’s a Lake Placid thing. She is either feeding the local coyotes or the birds of prey. Problem is her dogs cost hundreds of dollars.
Lived in Fairfield County CT several years ago. Our home was inland near reservoirs with large tracks of uninhabited wooded areas surrounding them. Deer were a problem and eastern coyotes were beginning to make an appearance. Lots of wild life in this ideal area with little hunting permitted.
I see them all the time at the golf course up the street. They just lay about the side of the fairway resting.....remarkable.
