Jimmy Carter believes U.S. is spying on him

Former President Jimmy Carter believes U.S. intelligence agencies are spying on him — so much so, he eschews email to avoid government spies.

"You know, I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored," Carter told NBC's Andrea Mitchell in an interview broadcast Sunday. "And when I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write a letter myself, put it in the post office and mail it.

"I believe if I send an email, it will be monitored," Carter continued.

The 89-year-old said the National Security Agency and others have abused the argument that gathering intelligence is critical to homeland security.

"That has been extremely liberalized and, I think, abused by our own intelligence agencies," Carter said.

BTW, when I was a 5th grader and began my SWL (short wave listener) hobby, I sent a reception report and a request to Radio Bulgaria for a QSL card and a program schedule.

One day there was a knock at the door, mom answered (we were told to never answer the door if a parent was present), and there was a tall stranger dressed in a dark business suit and looking like your typical Jehovah Witness or LDS visitor.

The stranger asked if I was home and he needed to speak with me. Mom was quite perplexed about this. Turned out I was a kid and he was from the FBI (Holy sh*t Batman!). To make a long story short, I showed him my shortwave radio and QSL card collection and then he left. Mom wanted to know what I was doing on my radio (No porn back then) to warrant a visit from the FBI. I was able to convince her I was not doing anything wrong and I got to keep my radio (parents used to take things away back then).

Years later while undergoing a security clearance check for an aerospace contractor, I was questioned about the “spying” incident. Seems I had an FBI file and had been under surveillance for spying for an iron curtain country.

Spying by the government on the general public is nothing new.

Wow, I got QSLs from Radio Moscow and Radio Havana Cuba, and I never got a knock on the door.

I thought the same thing. Maybe he thinks if he doesn’t put his return address on the envelope the feds won’t know it’s from him.

Radio Moscow QSL was quite an easy catch because they were blaring socialist propaganda 24x7 on a million frequencies. Probably too many people for the FBI to monitor back then before computers.

Radio Bulgaria must have been passing spy information through their broadcasts or something.

Radio Havana Cuba was not very active in english back then. After Castro took over, it was beamed to the US in english for propaganda purposes. Never got a QSL from them. I went on to get my ham radio license in 1958 and remember talking to several cuban stations before Castro. I got QSLs from them. After Castro, things changed.

BTW, listening to the socialist crap (propaganda disguised as news) back then reminds me how socialist (MSM) we have become during my generation.

LOL, nowadays it’s hard to tell the difference between MSNBC and the old Radio Tirana.

I did some heavy lifting...I went to the DUmp after I read this (and Carter’s being spied upon meshes with his “Obama never asked me for advice” comment as well.

Guess what? I believe we are hitting “straw that broke the Donkey’s back time” over there. The DUmmies (well a lot) see this as a wake up to the reality of their DearLeader...

The worm (or Attack Bunny Poo Pellet) is turning.

Spying . . . why? Is it because Obama needs so many more ways to be stupid, and they think he can teach him?

Looks more like the evil head (Lucifer) of the Cyclons from the original Battlestar Galactica (played by little Felix Silla - I’ve got his autographed picture in that costume and Carter almost looks just like him. Needs a little more foil).

Do you know an EMP would do to Carter when he is wearing that thing? Nothing. No brains to fry. Might get a good head tan though.

but is there much hope when FR posters think it’s funny that spying knows no bounds?

Chill out.

What FReepers think is funny is that this left-wing attention whore is so desperate that he's even willing to throw the one President who actually might be more of a looney-tune [and incompetent] under the bus for another 15 minutes of fame.

Nobody is spying on Carter, and he knows it damn well.
