I don’t understand ROKU. From what I have seen our smart TV, Sony blu-ray player, and Android on a stick all offer a simlar line up of hundreds of channels. However the programs are limited and/or several seasons old.
Is Fox news live or just a loop? I don’t care about sports but do enjoy NASCAR. is that offered and live?
It’s similar to my experience with Netflix. While mrs p6 finds things...mostly dvd....I don’t or they are dvd only.
I’m not knocking ROKU or Netflix, I want to know if there is something to justify spending more money on entertainnent.
“I dont understand ROKU.”
ROKU is essentially an aggregator streaming service that operates through an internet-connected box you connect to your TV. After you buy the ROKU box you pay ROKU nothing further. However, you DO sign up and utilize streaming services such at netflix and amazon prime, but those services connect to your ROKU box so that when you select things you want to stream from the netflix, amazon prime or other websites, they’ll then show up LISTED on your ROKU box where you can then start them at your leisure to actually stream in and appear on your TV.
Once you get your cable signal back then try http://www.voozy.tv
It is like Roku and the others. You get the iPlayer at no charge for the BBC which means the Top Gear show which I watch.
Try http://www.watchseries.lt
That is Lt at the end. Many current shows in 720 hd along with all the old shows you can think of.
You can cut your cable bill by a lot by getting your shows online and cancelling the tv portion of cable. I figure to save nearly $1,000 the first year by paying $40 a month for internet only instead of $122 for endless repeats of Pawn Stars....
I use a Samsung Galaxy Note tablet (holds 64gb sd card + 16gb internal) which has a IR blaster so it can be used as a remote control. Using The “Video Player” app they have, you start to watch your shows and then press a button and it goes to your wifi enabled tv.
It can detect your computer if you have a wifi enabled router so you can store your shows there.
I have a LG smart tv. Any wifi capable tv will do. Mine has 3 hdmi and 3 usb ports.
If you use Google Chromecast ($35 to buy) it will use up 2 usb ports. For Chromecast you download their app on your pc and then go to any site using the google browser to watch a show then press their icon in the upper right corner to put it on your big tv. The app is not available yet for android tablets.
I also have a external WD My Passport Ultra 2TB drive that holds various shows that I can bring up on the tv like a jukebox.
Here is what the original poster may end up like if cable does not start working again...
