Tibetan mastiff is a status symbol for the newly wealthy in China, fetching prices upwards of a million dollars.
]A wealthy businessman in China purchased a Tibetan mastiff puppy at a luxury pets fair for a whopping $1.9 million.
They have lions blood and are top-of-the-range mastiff studs, said Zhang Gengyun, the dog's breeder. Pure Tibetan mastiffs are very rare, just like our nationally treasured pandas, so the prices are so high."
Tibetan mastiffs are known for their round manes giving them a lion-like look, and are descendants of hunting dogs used by nomadic tribes in Asia. The dogs are large and can be ferocious and fiercely loyal, the New York Post reported.
The pup the unnamed businessman purchased was 31 inches tall and about 200 pounds.
The dog is a popular breed for the newly wealthy in China, a status symbol move that has driven their prices up. One sold for $1.5 million in 2011 and there are reports another fetched $4.3 million last year.
An industry insider it's often the case that breeders drive the prices up on these transactions to boost the dogs worth, but that actually money never exchanges hands.
The Chinese will slice him up into dog sushi for the greatest sex ever!
Yes, but what do they taste like?
You beat me to it. I should have checked to see if any FReepers had the same first thought. Dang it!
You won’t know until you wok them.
see my tagline.
Tibetans are not to be trifled with and not really that rare.
The buyer was a moron with more dollars than sense.
This 1 looks just like a Chow Chow. Except, I guess, the drop ears.
How do they taste?
Maybe the owner will be hosting a private dinner @ $500,000 a plate like the movie “The Freshman”
Amazing dogs. Not worth what this guy paid, but they are amazing. The fur feels like cashmere.
“Adopted a rottweiler last year at a local shelter.80 bucks. Were very happy with him and I think hes pretty happy with us.”
But what did you do with the $1.199 million you saved??
Paid our taxes.
Thank you for adopting from a shelter. Both my cats were shelter kitties. I live in an apartment, so I’ve never had the pleasure of sharing my life with a dog. I still hope to do so someday.
Give your doggy a kiss from me. I do like doggies.
I have heard so many different stories about this dog, it’s mind boggling, so who knows what the real truth is.
