How Do I Purge Ask.com from my Computer (vanity)
Self | 3/19/14 | lafroste

Posted on 03/19/2014 7:11:35 AM PDT by lafroste

I made the grave mistake of downloading the app for Ask.com. The stupid thing took over my browser and is causing a variety of computer glitches. Now, instead of google, my "default" search engine is Ask.com. I find it to be totally unusable. The search results are bizarre and off topic and completely worthless. My question is how do I get rid of the d@&ned thing. It's not listed as software by my computer so I can't uninstall it. How do I get rid of this invasive and destructive parasite? Thank you for your help (I love this place)

If you lick the wrong links and use a downloader, yes. I usually lick on the link to the app designer’s webite and download it from there

Meant click...$&@# mobile devices...

Try “HiJackThis!”. It gets rid of tool bars and browser helper objects (BHOs).

You have to first burn your computer to the ground ...then you can rebuild it

Gasp! This is such a common problem. When installing freeware or shareware always click the Custom Installation or Advanced Installation option which usually allows you to uncheck installation of additional free products. Then after you’ve installed the crapware you couldn’t live without, go to the Control Panel, click on Uninstall a Program, check the list to see if anything other than what you wanted was installed and uninstall it. Make it a habit if you download lots of freebies. Also, avoid CNET’s download.com as the source of you programs, as it installs things whether you want them or not. I use majorgeeks.com as my source.

. My “internet options” is frozen. I can’t access it. Another glitch that I was unaware of. BTW: I am using Firefox browser, and my OS is Windows 7.

In Firefox try this. Go to tools. Go to add ons. Look over extensions and plug ins. If it's there disable and /or remove.

While you're there look for Yontoo (tool bar) Yank it if you got it.

You’d have disable all electronic communications to disable the National Blackmail / Surveillance Agency first

And a lot of zobama’ing too (when you try to hit the cap key first and hit Z instead)

Mobile devices with with the touchpad keys close together don’t make it anyeasy either. I think several guys think I’m the forum drunk but the truth is I rarely drink alcohol and don’t do drugs...: )

Auto-correct is what kicks my butt. Wish I could figure out how to turn it off.
