Word For The Day, Monday, March 14, 2014 blarney
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
blarney; noun noun 1. flattering or wheedling talk; cajolery. 2. deceptive or misleading talk; nonsense; hooey: a lot of blarney about why he was broke. verb (used with object), verb (used without object), blar·neyed, blar·ney·ing. 3. to flatter or wheedle; use blarney: He blarneys his boss with the most shameless compliments. Origin: 176070; after the hamlet Blarney, in Ireland; see Blarney stone 1796 (which is said to make a persuasive flatterer of any who kiss it), in a castle near Cork, Ireland; reached wide currency through Lady Blarny, the smooth-talking flatterer in Goldsmith's "Vicar of Wakefield" (1766).
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with >> WFTD.
Not sure this is the sort of blarney that conservatives want to hear from Rand Paul.
this had better be the last snow day of the season, as i am ready to move to the fricking tropics.
Ugh. Coffee.

I was on a tour between Blarney Castle and Waterford on 9-11-2001 when we received word of of the NY Trade Center catastrophe. That terrible news overshadowed the rest of our trip, and that’s no blarney!
To be FRANK, a gay liberal like BARNEY
Was up to his eyeballs in blarney
But even Barry, a liar
With trousers afire
Cannot match the b.s. of Jay Carney
There once was a FReeper named xsmommy
She gave us a word, namely ‘blarney’
She complained of the snow
But I wish she would know
that the heat in Florida is too freaking soggy
Y’all have gotten hammered with more snow in DC than we have in CT. What a load of blarney, eh?
Blarney - the typical contents of Obama’s teleprompter.
I was at Blarney Castle in 1997. Kissed the stone and everything.
not fricking soon enough!
that is too bad. A+++
excellent! A++++ rumors Carney is ready to move on from his blarney blathering.
well it’s not an either/or proposition, Rarestia! Yes FL is too soggy, and too much snow is bad, DC and surrounds are normally a more temperate locale with hot humid summers and just a little bit of snow. this is the fourth time we have had to shovel this winter and truly it has to be a record in our 15 years in this house. How fortuitous for xshub that he has been out of town for 2 of the 4, and so left his womenfolk in charge of shoveling out!
