A freak rain storm has dumped as much as 1m (3ft) of hail on Asmara, capital of Eritrea, in what appears to be the heaviest rainfall ever recorded there.
This week's storm lasted just 90 minutes, but afterwards parts of the city were completely blocked by ice, government-run newspaper Hadas Eritrea reports. Footage on local television shows streets running with water, and vehicles buried under the hail.
It is by far the heaviest rain ever recorded in the Eritrean capital, the newspaper says. A BBC Monitoring journalist in Nairobi adds that while hail is not unknown in Asmara at this time of year, this week's storm has surprised residents with its intensity.
Eritrea, situated on the Horn of Africa, experiences a short rainy season between February and April, known locally as the "belg" or little rains, followed by a main rainy season between June and September. Average annual rainfall is 61cm (24 inches).

Amazing, especially when the rest of the country is receiving record cold and snow!
This was the place that had that volcano pop a few years ago was it not?
I believe it's a few hundred miles north of where the volcano erupted. But not that far.
That’ll put a dent in the Khat production.
Lol! Looks like a great place to avoid for sure.
Once again, my hopes to find snow in the yard are dashed.
Darn it... ;) You should move to Flagstaff! I’ve been there in June and have seen is snow. lol
I’d move there in nothing flat if I could find a job. I haven’t been to Flag in 12 years. No one seems to want to hire a former full-time-stay-at-home mom who-was-married-for-21 years, volunteered like crazy, watched other kids, and when I can get an interview, I am asked by the career-ladies, “why did i not work”? as if raising your kids full-time isn’t work, in addition to running a house, cooking, yard work, cleaning, and having a husband (child # 5).
In this economy I am dead in the water.
I just found my diary from 1974 (lol) I hate writing and that is evident as the year progressed. I reused this diary for 1975 also. Many days I wrote (during the winter) as the first sentence, “woke up NO SNOW”. 40 years ago I was dreaming of a “white Christmas”.
msm radio (progressive radio, barf) was hysterical today over the 4.4 in LA.
I wonder what our ancestors who had really hard, harsh lives would think of the cry babies in hollywood?
I've never seen a "white Christmas" in my life - ever. lol Had hopes for this year, but no dice either...
As for the economy, I don't see any signs of it getting better. Probably worse... :(
That’s what she said! lol
I have no hope either. “Hope and Change” my ARSE Barry.

Fox station in Westwood. I decided to watch the anchor dude’s glass of water. Looked like it was full up to within and 1 1/2” of the top. Never slurped over. Was a jolt though. Now how can those con men like Algore think that we can stop a huge slab of Earth from slipping?
Mild by Chilean standards. lol Have you been keeping an eye on the "ring of fire"?

Lol at the expression on that lady’s face!
Have you felt anything where you’re at?
Yes. Saw those big ones. Perhaps Algore should be sent in his private carbon-footprint-hogging jet to negotiate with the Mountain Gods? I’d be willing to throw in the bit of “change” (courtesy of our President) I have left to help pay his way there. (if the 120 mil he got from Middle Eastern Big Oil as payment for his joke of a TV network isn’t enough to fill his jet).
I have not had a sufficient answer from ANY climate-change-con support as to how the Earth warmed from the Ice Age when Man wasn’t around to exhale CO2, Man’s machines weren’t around to exhale CO? Immediately they turn to talking points and lose the debate. They can’t answer because the answer points to their folly of a belief/climate change religion.
I would have almost put money we would have had measurable snow this year down here.
Came close, but never had the "deep" enough cold to do it.
Maybe next year :)
Heck know. Phx, nada. Since the ex got our house and pool I can’t even look for water sloshing. lol
I keep saying that about the: snow, the AZ Cardinals, the Phoenix Suns, ASU football.... lol, next year and perhaps now I should include that about any employment and Economy improvement?
