Hunter bags enormous 500-lb wild hog in North Carolina

It's not everyday that you shoot a 500-pound beast.

Hunters in Bertie County, N.C., knew about the massive wild hog roaming around their woods when it was captured on trail cameras several years ago.

But Jett Webb finally managed to capture the animal near land leased by the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club.

"It was very surreal,” Webb recently told WNCN. “It was a shock. It was very humbling to say the least, when you walk up on a beast that big and you say, 'Oh my gosh. I had no idea that there could be something that big running around the woods of Eastern North Carolina.'"

Webb said his catch will feed his family for a whole year.

"We’re not going to waste anything,” he added.

Webb said he was "taken aback" when news of his catch made national headlines.

"I'm just kind of taken back by it just being a country boy from ENC trying to put a little meat in his freezer."

I’d grind that thing up and make sausage out of it. That SOB is gonna be so tuff, that you’d have to chase the chops around the table with your fork.
Loins might even be chewy.

This photo and story was on YAHOO (liberal bias platform) yesterday and had 10,000 comments...

About 8,500 of the comments were about killing the “magnificent beast” was such a crime...Using a military rifle intead of a regular hunting rifle gave the poor, defenseless animal no chance at all...A “real” hunter would have went after the animal with a Bowie knife instead of cowardly shooting the animal from a safe distance....and on and on and on in this fashion.....

I was surprised at the extreme lack of knowledge of firearms and hunting in general...

Notice also it has a good quality IR (night vision) scope on it as well. Shootin’ wild hogs at night with a nightvision scope is legal in a number of Southern states.

It'll take a winch truck!

So would grinding it and mixing spices, but either way, that's a lot of groceries.

CAPTURE? What good is that? You gotta shoot'em.

Oh, it's just a libtard writer who doesn't want to say shoot or killed.

That’s a big pig but the state fair always has a boar weighing over 1000 pounds.

I think that the hunter was well behind the hog, distorting your perspective.

Example of posts on YAHOO about this story:

“OOO I’m impressed. Any Moron can shoot a pig. Why isn’t this guy on the front lines? Because cowards like to do the shootin but when the bullets are coming towards you would run like a bee-ot- ch.”

Sorry to burst Yall’s BS bubble, but what’s the point of trying to pull some photo trick by having the shooter further in the background to give the pig in foreground an oversized view?

500 lb. hog is not exactly unusual, nor are some people trying to pull a fast one.

A 500 lb “wild boar” is pretty unusual. Very easy to get a farm raised pig over 500 lbs. They are penned and fed as much as they can eat several times a day.

It only takes a short time for a hog to go feral. Long hair, tusks, elongated head etc. A true Russian Boar, 300 lbs would be huge. This one looks to me to be not far from domesticated. Maybe 1st generation? Maybe domesticated and ran wild.

A boar hog that big and presumably old is going to STINK (on the outside). Think of a nasty billy goat. The meat is edible, but mostly only as sausage or the crock pot. But that is a lot of pork.

On the camera angle, that’s an old hunter/angler trick. I have killed smaller pigs (100 lbs - yummy) put them on the hood of the four wheeler, stood just so far back behind the pig, and, ahem, embellished my trophy maybe once or twice.

And some fish just need to be stepped on a little bit so they will keep still for being measured.
