‘Spoiled’ 18-year-old Cheerleader Moving Back in With Parents After Judge Throws Out Her Lawsuit
The Daily Mail ^ | 3/12/2014

A New Jersey cheerleader who sued her parents for child support after she moved out was today pictured leaving her family's home with her mother after returning to the house this week.

In an apparent sign that the family were attempting to return to normality after their embarrassment, Rachel Canning, 18, climbed into her car to head to school on Thursday while her mother Elizabeth climbed into a separate vehicle. They were followed by her father Sean and a younger sibling.

Rachel returned to the Morris County home with her tail between her legs on Tuesday night after a judge took a very dim view of her lawsuit demanding her parents pay child support, college tuition and other expenses last week.

Her parents had claimed that their daughter ran off in October to stay with friends because she refused to abide by rules they had put in place, including to stop dating her boyfriend.

Wouldn’t it be funny if all three Cannings filed a lawsuit against that busybody lawyer who paid over twelve thousand to bring the case vs parents to trial? They could sue him for providing alcohol to a minor, Oh, and for kidnapping and false imprisonment because that lawyer intimidated and confused poor Rachael. The plan is she will get one third of of the winnings if their 10 million dollar suit is paid or settled.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned in any posts about this: If she is such a good student - I believe scholarships were mentioned - hasn’t she kissed any scholarships good-bye just for putting her NAME out there in this lawsuit?

It's been mentioned.

This family needs prayers, they may actually come out of this mess sobered and improved

One would think so, but if they're uberlibs? I doubt it.

In high school boys were allowed to ride the school bus with their 22 rifles (for gun safety course on the football field) My how things have changed.

I remember those days very well. In '74 -and this was the NW suburbs of Chicago, mind you- I used to take a .22 Winchester Model62 pump to high school in the trunk of my car, for Rifle Club after school.

Yeah....

You didn’t have to bring your own 22, the gym teacher had several to loan. I was never that fond of guns so I never took the course. I remember that some of the guys had rifles that were a combination 22 and shotgun...they were treasured for squirrel hunting. The ones the teacher had to loan were one shot 22’s that broke open in the middle.

Her and the boyfriend are going to set the parents up for something else. This is like inviting a devil backstabber in the home.

I blame the idiot father of the boyfriend who was the lawyer who put this nonsense in her head in the first place.....

Not that she is blameless, but certainly she was dumb enough to believe their was a legal solution to an parenting problem...

Almost every school here in New England had a shooting range in their basements. [Parents, today would be mortified to know this. Meh.]

Boys and *only* boys carried their .22s to weekly practice....and left them in the coatroom. Depending on the teacher....you were allowed to keep your ammo in your pocket...or perhaps your teacher made you put it on her desk until dismissal time.

I don’t recall if this was part of the Civilian Marksman Program ....but I know adult rifle clubs for competition shooting ...were organized in every city in the local *Armory*.

That’s know we grew up....familiar with handling firearms safely. We have fallen far from our roots.

Don’t worry. She’ll make a couple bucks when Dr. Phil lines her up for a sob-story feature. We’re not done seeing this brat.

Maybe, but I think the brat is a little prettier than Just-in Beaver. Could be a casting problem. But this is just made-for-tv with Dr. Phil and a documentary or two . . . and maybe a tell-all book.

Usually in families, if there is an issue with the daughter....look to the dad. If there is an issue with the male child, look to the mom.
In the "family dynamic" you can get to the point where the mother and daughter vie for the dad's attention if the dad isn't there for the daughter as much as she might need. Some kids are mature enough to not expect 24 hour a day attention from mom or dad but if you throw in a strong outside influence (the attorney neighbor, cult leader, etc.)you have easy prey for that strong outside influence.
I suspect these parents didn't get along very well and I also suspect the dad is a very weak character in this play. A "strong father figure" would have reigned this girl in a long time ago!
