Saudi scholar says buffet meals are Haram
A member of the Standing Committee of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan, said that buffets offered at restaurants are haram.
The basis of his statement was that buffet meals have a fixed price, but the quantity of food that can be consumed is unknown or unlimited.
According to Sabq news, the senior scholar said that the quantity of food and the price of the meals must be clear and known. He was responding to a listener‘s question about buffets on Holy Quran Radio.
“One must not simply go to a restaurant that offers an all-you-can-eat meal for say SR 10 or SR 50 without mentioning any conditions…this is prohibited,” said Sheikh Fawzan.

Yes, I know that AYCE buffets are ain invitation to overeat, and I love them anyway... especially any kind of Asian buffet and most especially a seafood buffet!

This Saudi Sheikh has a problem if he believes that food buffets are haram. HE has no say as to what is haram and what isn't. He's a SCHOLAR, not an imam.
If no imam has come out with it, then there's nothing wrong with it. Besides, one doesn't HAVE to consume everything on the buffet.
My guess is that he got some nasty food poisoning at one of those buffets and has to wreck vengeance on SOMEONE for SOMETHING. MEGA sour grapes.
Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a koran as part of a food buffet, and I’m sure none have said “allahu akbar” per arrangement of the food.
I think this calls for some general rage and seething with indignation at the infidel food buffets by way of slaughtering a few innocent bystanders.

You've never had to work with one of those "micromanaging control freaks" before? They come in both genders, all ages, white/blue collar professions/jobs, all nationalities and all faiths.
They do themselves in eventually. MAYBE the good Lord will let you see that momentous event someday.
Unfortunately, collectivism is part and parcel of the human condition sometimes. The Mormons were a little bit like that. I had an uncle (my mother's brother) and aunt who became Mormons as adults, so I got to know the faith pretty well.
When the INTERNET hit their community, all heck broke loose and the LDS BLED members, especially the young.
I didn't notice the collectivism where we lived in the KSA but that's not saying much. Our women's group was large (800 women) but we were an eclectic bunch and reveled in our differences. The camp even produced its own cookbook.
By the way, how are the Islamic collectivists "affectionate"? I can't figure THAT one out. The Kingdom is still basically tribal and the "affection" pretty much stays within the tribe.
