morning email from Bristol mgmt:
“By now nearly everyone has seen Sunday’s weather forecast and expressed questions regarding plans. NASCAR has a nearly 70-year history of working with tracks to get races in on the scheduled date. In Bristol Motor Speedway , we have a track that dries in less than an hour, equipment here to do it and lights that allow us to go well into the evening. We are very hopeful and fully intend to run the Food City 500 tomorrow. If by chance that does not happen, we are prepared to race Monday at noon. But that is a backup plan we hope to not need.”
It’s been my experience at Talladega, and Raintona, that it takes an hour per mile to dry a track.
A couple box fans at turns 2 and 4 ought to have Bristol dried in 15 minutes;-)
Race today is definitely being affected by rain. Looking at the weather radar future cast does not look good.

so.........a rain delay ?
Somebody tell the Einsteins at NASCAR they have these things called "rain tires" and also "Rain-ex".
Rain racing could be kinda like dirt-track. Just think of the drifting....Rooster tails!
A rain race at Bristol would definitely lead to serious overtime in the fab shop...for weeks and weeks afterwards.
Falling temps to mid 40s, rain, wind 13mph, sounds like a long chilly afternoon.
Probably.
They can’t help themselves. Is there any other racing series that has any where near as many wrecks as NASCAR?
... probably a postponement? forecast radar showed rain until after 4 pm et
I think part of it is driven by safety and economics.
When I raced sport cars in SCCA on my own nickel, I was pretty darn careful when I could be.
These standardized Nascar chassis are fairly cheap to manufacture because they don’t use a lot of exotic materials. And the safety package seems so good now I think there is zero concern by drivers relative to injury.
Didn’t it snow at Bristol one year? I seem to remember snowball fights and a little snowman atop one of the cars.
Yes. Mid March is a bit optimistic for the location, even for those believing in “global warming”.
I feel sorry for the fans stuck waiting down there on a crappy day.
Good for you, I also like Trans-Am racing. It's real "run what you brung" "Stockcar" racing.
I think the NASCAR wrecking is for ratings, just like All-Star Wrestling or Monster Truck performances.
However, you'd think the drivers would want to be a little more careful just so they could avoid a DNF.
The Wikipedia for Bristol Speedway indicates a 2006 race was affected by snow.
Track drying has begun.
If the storm keeps edging northeast they may be in ok shape.
Checking in and looks like a Bristol bust...sigh. Didn’t tune in at 1. Time was better spent tightening the steering on the Durango.
Has the race been called? If so is tomorrow looking any better?
At least it’s not going to take as long to dry a short track.
Drivers are coming to the track. Still might get a race in!
Junior looks like he’s gonna run the Iditarod.
Do drivers still wear Nomex or has it been replaced? The few times I had a suit on it seemed ...hot.
Not sure what the top line suits are made from these days.
Saw a video at the PIR show how the Sparco suits are sewn by robots in Italy, amazing technology, with applying all the logos, etc.
