A lot of dogs are contemptible cowards, avoiding anything close to a fair fight.Pack instinct. No pack, no balls.

My Maine Coon weighs 23#. The only time he gets upset is when I get him out of my place on the couch.

The best dogs I've known were German Shepherds, loyal, good with kids and ready to defend their own. But in my experience, they seem to lack a viciousness toward smaller animals. That in my mind is a plus.

Cats are DIFFERENT. Not evil. Dogs are slavish and sycophantic (and I love ‘em for it!) and cats are more equal cohabitors.

I honestly haven’t weighed the big ol’ fur ball, but he’s HUGE. Sweetest cat I’ve ever had, too. We adopted him - some jackball named him “Binky”. He doesn’t seem to mind.

The family is still deciding whether to keep Lux, who has been acting normal since the incident. Not completely true. Cats come in a variety of temperaments and it's usually how they were handled during their first few weeks as a kitten that will leave a lasting impact on it's behavior. Also, cats need to have their own space. Sometimes the lay out of the home can affect a cat's behavior.
Personally, I never trust any animal around children.

Friend of mine had a large cat that was a war machine, it’d killed a couple dogs, 3 or so raccoons and at least a half dozen stray cats, but he loved little kids, they could play with him like he was a Stretch Armstrong doll.

OK. I’ve seen the video of this story and I’ve seen the dog. It MIGHT weigh a pound, dripping wet.
