I never use self checkout in any store. My wife asked why. I told her, “I don’t work here.”
Exactly.
I had no choice but to use a self checkout machine once in a Walmart store because there literally was not one checkout line open. When I was finished a security guard who could barely speak English walked up to me at the door and said (as best as he could) that he needed to look through my bags and see my receipt. I said no way. I used that machine because there wasn’t anyone working, I am honest, and they have sensors at the door to catch people who are not. He insisted that I allow him to go through my bags again and wanted to see my receipt. That’s when I said, “I’ll show you my papers if you show me yours.” His response? “Go ahead sir.”
I use self checkout all the time, I’ve found the places most likely for them to not work are the places with incompetent employees and I don’t want to go there anyway. What’s great is because large chunks of society still have this fear of computers there’s generally no line so you can bang through much faster. I’m so good with those things once the “observer” offered me a job as a cashier.

When the self serve card readers were first introduced I would hand my card to the clerk and they would point to the machine.
I would (sarcastically) remark..
“If I wanted to swipe cards I would have your job. - By the way..What do you think happens to your job when EVERYONE uses that thing?” and maybe “Speaking of job why didn’t you question my non signature? I would think you had a reason for turning it over?”
Love it when they used to say “Well, you have to sign it.” I would respond with “What good does it do for me to sign it in front of you?”
Admittedly enough of them act and look like they would rather have the machine than them standing there....
