Actually the “Thing” had a pretty good run, just not in the USA. It was originally developed as a military vehicle and was produced as such for 15 years (1968-83). It was sold for about 10 years in Mexico as the Safari. In the USA though it was introduced in 1973 and discontinued in 1974. Personally I would love to have one as a SHTF vehicle after the EMP attack knocks all the modern cars out.

2. Pagers

Pagers had a pretty good run from the early 60s until cell phones dropped in price enough to replace them in the mid 90s. Hardly a flop. They're still used by doctors in hospitals where cell phones often have no signal.

The Thing had a great run in other countries, the safety regulations killed it (and later the Beetle) in the US.
