“I am fine with this as long as the technology is made available to the public so we can use it to monitor the police and elected government officials and non-elected bureaucrats.”
I’m not fine with it. Government is supposed to be transparent. My life is supposed to be protected from frivolous monitoring.
This technology has been out there for years. I was using one back in 1989. We had loads of laughs on Saturdays listening in on cell phone conversations between husbands in the car and wives at home yelling at him for picking up the wrong thing...going to the wrong place, etc.
The device would report the cell tower in use, the serial number and cell number of the phone being connected to.
Back in the days of scanners, you wouldn’t believe what juicy gossip we’d pick up on cops and elected officials. One local political head was talking to another big shot elected official and we learned exactly what Debbie would do and for how much for the good ol’ boys’ upcoming “hunting” weekend.
